Doug Pederson on consertative playcalling

The reason we don't win is front office and head coaching, the two most important positions in the nfl. At least Jerry would generate some excitement with his splashes. Now we have a super conservative front office to go along with our super conservative coach.

A couple of years ago Chip Kelley left that team a MESS. It was generally thought the Eagles were screwed for years to come. Peterson is an excellent coach and has earned his stripes. He can say whatever he wants as far as I'm concerned. Meanwhile, back at the ranch were talking about some process and RKG because it has a good ring to it.

You will rue this glib comment the day he gets his rightful place in the ring of honor

Doubtful........I miss the old days when you actually had to earn your way onto the ROH.........only in Jerry's mind would Jimmy NOT be there but Garrett would..........at that point they should just do away with the ROH altogether.

pls move this to the NFL folder or since its about the Eagles delete it. Who give an F what anyone/anything from that team thinks or does

Dude needs to win more before getting on this high horse...

Oh well make your money big dawg

In his new book "Fearless,'' Doug Pederson said he was watching the Pats-Jags game in the locker room before the Eagles played the Vikes when the Jags took a knee at end of 1st half. "I was there thinking, "You've got to be kidding me right now.'' (more)

"It made me mad because Jacksonville had New England right where they wanted them. I was screaming at the TV in my office. When they knelt right before halftime, inside I was like, "I'll never do that." It fueled me," Pederson said.

"They could have least tried for a field goal. They took it out of their quarterback's hands, and they didn't give to their big back Leonard Fournette. I thought, "If they lose this game, this is why." Sure enough they would go on to lose the game."

“You learn if you play passive, if you play conservative, if you call plays conservatively, you are going to be 8-8, 9-7 every year”

“Coach is gonna do it his way. His way is pedal to the medal. He wants to score on every play. He gets upset sometimes because we don’t score on every play, in a good way.”

Reminds me on modern day Landry's coaching.

Garrett is the exact opposite of this. And we are always stuck with him. How many years has it been again? We can't wait to be 8-8/ 9-7 again.

Screw Pederson(until he accepts a trade for Chaz Green). We’ll have our day day in the sun soon enough(as soon as we get rid of Green).until the (not before we get rid of Green) no need to spew any Eagles rhetoric or ideology around here. They’re not the first team to win it their own way. We have our own identity(thats tainted by the appearance of Green on our roster).

When Dak threw that pass to Hurns on 3rd down and it was short. Garrett didn't say jack about it. It means Garrett doesn't give a squat about winning. He's content on just field goals.

If we had a real coach each time we touch the ball we need to score a TD. Period. Field goals are ok but they don't win games. Thats why we are mired in mediocrity. 8-8 is the type of coach that Garrett is.

He doesn't strive to getting to the superbowl or win a playoff game. No not him. He is one of those that will take a knee before the half even when we have the momentum. He just doesn't have a clue on how to coach.

A Super Bowl within 2 years. I'm betting if Garrett took over the Eagles in the same exact situation, they wouldn't get anywhere near a championship!

nor the playoffs.

----

Garrett can't wait to go 8-8 this year and get a 10 year extension !

..dont think it would have mattered, even if they scored a FG before the half. It was a lopsided win for NE. NE was just a better team. Pederson using hindsight bias, presents the situation different. As if Jags really showed a great possibility of actually beating NE.

No but the Jags could have made it a game. Who knows. Maybe NE could have fumbled the ball and their D scores. Then Brotles could have continued playing as he did in the first half.

I didn't know a 4-point win was considered lopsided, but here we are.

People that like winning give it. People that like losing dont pay it any mind.

I'm not sure what you're thinking of because Landry may have had some innovations like the flex D and bringing back the shotgun but as far as play calling went during the Landry years for the most part he played it safe or conservative. Yes he took some shots down field but by and large he relied on his run game much like the Cowboys are doing now. He diedn't take a lot of unnecessary risks or gambles. All coaches do take some at some point but Landry didn't make a practice of it.
.

Damn, so Switzer was right going for 4th and 1 from his own 30ish yard line, not once but twice thanks to a false start? Oh the consternation around here when he did.

This is about taking the knee not about going for it on 4th and 1. Playing it conservative. There's a big difference from your example. The Jags had 55 seconds on the clock 1st down and 2 timeouts. Could've made an attempt to get in FG range and put some points on the board. Instead they're taking a knee. Exactly something Garrett would do.
