Don't care about contract talk right now, but I keep reading how Murray, Randle, McFadden and Morris were just as good as Zeke with our line.
First off, Murray played with Romo and Dez and a prime Witten where Romo was the player teams game planned for.
The other backs mentioned were never the focus of the offense and never commanded an extra man on the box they got the yards against 7 or 8 in the box.
Zeke goes against 8 or 9, allowing receivers to play man to man. Our receivers this year and Dak should flourish with Zeke and when they pull that extra man Zeke will tear them a new one.
No doubt our other backs will play well with our stud line, but will defenses respect our play action against them like they do against Zeke?

There is no doubt that Zeke is the cog that makes this engine run. On the other hand there is s point where his cap hit would be too much. I WANT Zeke starting game 1. What I’m not sure I want is a broken down Zeke and a bad cap hit three years from now.

I want Zeke to stay a Cowboy, but would I rather have a first round and a third round pick for him? Maybe, but it depends on Pollard and Weber.

I know I don’t want to see Morris lined up in the backfield.

No, by all means, go on thinking every little thought that enters your head deserves its own thread.

You're that important.

I "understand the point" just fine. You couldn't refute the points in the thread where they took place the first time, so you thought you'd start another thread.
You start a lot more threads than I do! Chatta

I believe rookies Pollard and Weber are going to answer a lot of questions this preseason and early part of the season concerning Zeke. If they shine, Zeke becomes expendable. If they struggle, Zeke becomes a necessity.

As good as either or both might look, I can't see that being enough to come close to replacing Elliott. You need someone with some proven skins on the wall. And not a 'Skin with no tread left on the tires.

Conversation ender for me if anyone suggests Randle, Morris or McFadden could ever be as good as Zeke behind any line.
:omg::lmao:

But on the subject on importance, I did find it interesting that the Dallas Morning News had a write-up today saying the most important player absent from training camp is DLaw, not Zeke.

The argument is that DLaw is the best player on the best performing unit of the team--which is the defense.

Anyway, I think Zeke will be signed and will be the highest paid RB in the league. The stickler is probably the guaranteed money because Dallas doesn't want t get screwed again if Zeke gets suspended

Zeke is as good as a RB as JG is a coach.

I think he's a fantastic player but let's also remember the team was still 3-5 even with him at the break last season.
That’s true, but that record was also a reflection of relying on WR-by-committee.

Unless Dak takes a big step as a QB, and if Zeke should actually hold out into the season, an RB-by-committee approach could yield similar results.

Weber was a workhorse at the same college Zeke went to... Ohio State in a big school conference that's known for very good defenses. He can carry a load if need be just like Zeke proved since his rookie year with the Cowboys. Pollard was a part-timer at Memphis who showed the ability to take it to the house on any given play, even when Memphis played against big school college teams. Just because they are rookies and don't have any NFL skins on the wall yet doesn't mean they can't be productive right out of the gate. Zeke did it in 2016. Why can't Pollard and Weber, especially behind this healthy/stacked Oline and surrounded by better receivers and a well polished and proven 3 year QB?

You probably also believe in Santa and the Easter bunny.........:muttley:
It's Zeke or bust baby!
And please don't ask me why as most of our fans know our offensive woes when #21 isn't in the backfield!

I'm not putting my season on the fact that a 4th round pick and part-time running back/receiver and a 7th rounder that nobody else wanted will replace the NFL's leading rusher.

I think that a committee might do enough to get by without Elliott if it comes down to it, but I'm not riding with those two rookies. No.

Weber wasn't a workhorse at Ohio State - he was in a time share with J.K. Dobbins. In fact, he was on the short end of usage in that time share.

Zekes play is not the issue. You "sign Zeke for anything" fans dont seem to get it the issue the rest of us have is his off field stupidity and the fact that he is a complete moron. Dont want to give that kind of guy crazy money.

You're right. It was about 55% Dobbins compared to 45% Weber in usage at Ohio State. Still, Weber can be productive, especially if paired with another talented RB like Pollard.

Dallas also has backs with enough speed that they better be respected...
