Downs and his draft reaction

Do you really have to be educated on how slang terms aren't literal? The way he says "That would be tough" simply means "that would be good". Thats it, no further interpretation needed.

He was prepared to slip. He seemed cool with any team, and happy to be drafted by the Cowboys... as you can see in the rest of that video.

You're reaching.
I don't think it's me reaching here. Is it the way that he says it or it's an actual slang term? Forgive me as I'm going to need an official slang translator here or at least video evidence of "that would be tough" being used that way. My 17 year-old nephew hasn't heard of it.

Downs has been nothing but completely professional throughout, but I don't get the sense that he really wanted to be a Dallas Cowboy.

His facial expressions and body language suggest that he probably thought he was going to the Giants or maybe thought he was going higher. And I have no doubt he will reach his potential as a Dallas Cowboy. But I don't see the passion for The Star. Whereas Lawrence is falling all over himself just to be here.

Did anybody else sense this or is it just me?

Who would be exited if he were a real player?

I would have been more concerned if he had been celebrating. Then youd know the guy is only about the money. Which he will find here only.

So someone not excited going to one of the worst franchises with no outlook to win something meaningful during his rookie contract to me is not concerning at all. In fact we need more of those players.

Just you. He's very down to earth kid.

Both, its the way he says it and a slang term. Just like the old "bad means good" thing...

Here's a couple references for your reading pleasure.

Also, probably the most popular example of this...

If you still think he was being literal... you're just wrong. *Shrug*

One thing about new draftees is that most of the time, that's not necessarily the team they wanted to play at. But what's more important to them is $$$$, prestige, camera time, winning. So if they pay me 50 million to be a Commanders fan, adios Cowboys world after 49 years.

I think we can safely say you’ll be a cowboys fan the rest of your life.

Do you have a background in non-verbal behaviors? An MA or PhD?

No. That would suggest that you might shut up about body language and stuff.

He knew Fangio's defense when he came in for his 30 visit. That tells me while he may have thought he was gonna go earlier and still had some lingering letdown going on, he's probably into being a Cowboy and playing for Parker.

The reactions were very 2026 as a society? With all the crying.

What happened to all the exultation and fist pumping from earlier drafts?

I heard his interview on local radio here in Denton. He said he won't lie but he didn't grow up a Cowboy fan. He said he was happy to be here though and will work hard. I really don't think this is a concern. He has that thing that lot of greats do. He wants to be the best at what he does. Glad we got this one.

Are you trying to say that our society has become soft? Even infecting what is supposed to be the manliest of manly sports? Lol

Exactly. Last year Donovan Ezeiruaku was upfront about his whole family being Eagles fans and how they will have to renounce it.

Personally I don't think players mind which team they end up on. It's all about making it to the NFL and achieving the lifelong dream.
