Downs has been nothing but completely professional throughout, but I don't get the sense that he really wanted to be a Dallas Cowboy.

His facial expressions and body language suggest that he probably thought he was going to the Giants or maybe thought he was going higher. And I have no doubt he will reach his potential as a Dallas Cowboy. But I don't see the passion for The Star. Whereas Lawrence is falling all over himself just to be here.

Did anybody else sense this or is it just me?

Not at all. Everyone shows their emotions differently. Downs seems to be very professional in the way he approaches things. Probably due to his upbringing.

I can imagine he wanted and expected to go higher.

Past that I cant imagine a more perfect set up for him. He went to a team that historically treats its players really well, to a fault at times.

Most importantly he joins a staff who many are projecting to not only do great things, but will feature Downs more so than any other scheme.

Downs coming to Dallas is a perfect storm, and hes intelligent enough to understand it.

His reaction seemed pretty normal to me.

Also, I don’t think whether he was hoping to be drafted earlier or by another team initially will have any impact on his playing career whatsoever.

He seems less the emotional type player and more of the cerebral, strictly business type.

Both types can be good in their own ways.

This is a weird thing to worry about. First off I’m sure he did expect to go higher, I know I did. And two we are asking an awful lot of these kids to be instantly passionate about any team that drafts them. Let these guys have a minute to take it in. Plenty of passionate players who get drafted and end up out of the league 3 years later. It’s a non issue imo

I have no doubt that Downs thought he might go a little earlier and that there was some disappointment there for him.

I also have no doubt that he’s happy to be going to Dallas. He immediately made comments about it being a Fangio defense that he already knows and seemed thrilled to be a Cowboy.

He knows, just like we know that there are way worse franchises to be drafted by.

It was just some disappointment of being drafted a little later than he had hoped.

I agree…he seems to be an even-keeled kid.

In the interviews I have seen, he doesn’t show much emotion. Even when Nabers and Parsons were cutting up in his interview post draft, he stayed pretty stoic and professional.

You can tell he is cut a little differently than most. He is really impressive for a 21 year old kid.

Probably just some paranoia on your part.

He HAS said that he didn't grow up a Cowboys fan. At least he is honest. For most of these players it is about money and it's a job. I doubt very many guys get to play for the team they loved growing up. Most of the time it is just luck if they do. I expect him to be the same guy he was in college barring injuries... he'll be playing for that new non-rookie contract.

Thanks for the feedback. I’m not worried about it. Just watched his draft reaction on a YouTube video. I’m sure if there was any disappointment on his part, he’ll get over it pretty quick and I’m sure he knows what an incredible opportunity he has in Dallas.

Yes I noticed. He wasn't a Cowboys fan and my guess is with his dad's background he probably grew up hating them and would have loved to follow his father's footsteps and get drafted by the Giants.

I did notice a huge difference between the two first rounders. Lawrence has actually impressed me more in interviews than Downs has.

I think the young man is happy to be here. This young man has a unique opportunity to fill a big void here and shape the defense in his image.

Personally Im very impressed with this young mans poise and work ethic.

Him and CP are capable people and I believe in both of those young men.
