It’s good to see and while Bain was my #1 target Downs was second so I’m excited to see what this kid will do.

If our front 7 can generate some playmaking this kid could put up some good numbers

The Cowboys played Roy so incorrectly. He was slow in college, but hit like a train. They should have played him like at OU at a river.

The Bears' Mark Carrier was the last safety to win defensive rookie of the year. And the vote was not even close.

On paper, Caleb Downs is as good (if not better) than Carrier coming out of college. I can easily see him matching or beating Carriers' ten interceptions in his first year in the league. Like the OP said, the guy literally covers the whole field.

However, all great players are usually dependent upon their units in performing their ultimate best. My single hope is this season's defensive front getting consistent quarterback pressure on passing downs. If so, I am sure Downs will have a fantastic first season.

I thought it was more that the NFL neutered RW when they took away the big hits than it was about being mis-managed. Before the league stepped in, separating receiver from ball was a part of coverage ability.
