Micah had all off season to get his back checked out. He didn’t. It wasn’t an issue early in the off-season. Now that there’s no contract, it seems that he doesn’t want to play, but also doesn’t wanna give up his game day checks.

He has been cleared to practice by team doctors and is now apparently trying to find a doctor who will say that his back is too bad to play. This will enable him to still get his game checks. It is not something that a team player or team leader would do. He does not want to play. If you can’t see that, then you need to open your eyes.

There are two differences between the Zeke/Martin holdouts and Micah’s:

1) Micah is asking for the most money ever given to a defensive player in the NFL. With the overpay to Dak in hindsight, this is harder to stomach. We’ve seen the detrimental effect Dak’s deal had on player acquisitions. Not to mention the guaranteed money aspect that makes it impossible to move on in the case of underperformance.

2) Micah has made the entire thing personal. He made public statements indicating he wants to be traded; doesn’t want to be a Cowboy; and behaves like an entitled child in public displays of immaturity.

None of the holdouts have been endearing to fans. But there is a red line, and for a team on the outside looking in when it comes to competitiveness, equitable trade compensation for Micah is likely the best thing for the franchise.

Uh, it's about JERRY. It's called The Gambler and His Cowboys. It's his story.

Michael is probably the other person focused on the most. And, love him or hate him, Michael's personality (which started in Miami with Jimmy) was the heart of those Superbowl-winning teams. People forget how good Irvin was.

And also, the Cowboys were so good because they were good at the fundamentals. They could run the ball (and only had like 3 running plays, and some went left, some went right), and they could get Michael open on slants and deep posts. Michael mostly ran 2 routes. Teams KNEW WHAT WAS COMING by formation oftentimes, and just couldn't stop it. Superior players, who were determined to be great, and made few mistakes & penalties (that's coaching).

The defenses were intermittently good, not often great....but they had great pass rush. So the Cowboys' offense often made those defenses look a bit better than they were...

I want to bring something to the table here.

When Jerry went toe to toe with the NFL regarding branding, sponsorships etc. Does anyone believe that the fallout from that is what we have witnessed for the last 30 years?

They havent won since, they have had obscure and mind boggling penalties called against them at the most inopportune times, and just cant seem to put it all together.

Yes there is a lot more to that story. Also on Jerry, but to sit here and act like its not plausible at all and we are all nuts for thinking there has been an issue is mind boggling to me.

Actually Jethro did the league a favor. Not only did he create an enormous revenue stream for the rest of the teams but insisting on attempting to be a football guy as GM after Jimmy left basically nullified Cowboys being a serious SB contender.

I’d argue a win win for the NFL as the Cowboys have become the laughing stock while pimping themselves with the only title - #1 in revenue- they can now win under Jethro’s stranglehold over Cowboys Football.

Answer: I believe it has very little to do with it. In my opinion, the Dez Bryant catch/non catch is the most questionable example that could make an argument. However, I dismiss it as a league conspiracy and simply something I can forever blame Dean Blandino for (INCOMING!)

No. I do not see a macro level causality (e.g. the league). Rather, I identify a micro level reason at the team level only.

Coaches come and go. The same goes for players, scouts, front office personnel, etc. Ditto for Dallas' opponents at all levels of their organizations. All these entities influence what happens each game, whether on-the-field, from the sidelines, or supplemented by sub-management. All are variables that have fluctuated the franchise's ability to compete for championships.

There has been one constant variable within that winning formula. The one thing that has been an integral component year after year after year. It is an inherent flaw that has never been addressed:

The Joneses in the front office.

I shall not shift blame to the other owners, Roger Goodell or the league office while they are an annual, embedded, and glaring glitch in The Matrix. I will keep swallowing the red pill, please and thank you.

No one is forcing them to play a game to make millions of dollars. They agreed to a contract set by the owners and CBA for their rookie years, just like they agreed to the same contract that stipulates how the franchise tag can be used and the amount of money they will receive playing under it.

Just because they personally didn’t like it doesn’t mean they didn’t agree to it and shouldn’t be expected to uphold it.

If players had guaranteed contracts like they do in baseball I’d agree with this. But teams will dump a guy the first chance they get if they think it’s in their interest. So I can’t really blame guys who are always one play away from never playing again to try to get paid when they can.

You normally don’t get second opinions unless you don’t like the opinion the first doctor gave you. He was cleared to practice by Cowboys doctors. Why would he want to get a second opinion unless he didn’t want to play? He had all offseason to get his back checked out and he sat around. You cannot possibly believe that he has back issues that would prevent him from playing.

It is clear that he wants to fake an injury in order to still get paid because he doesn’t have the guts to hold out and not get paid.

A second opinion is common practice in many aspects of life.

I get three estimates before I commit to major home repairs. I don’t just trust the first one.
