He took a roster spot from someone who could've actually helped out just so Jerry could have a feel good moment for the cameras.

Deuce, like most of Jerrys' decisions, was more for the media than the product on the field.

You are so right. You make enough trades you are bound to make some clunkers. Every team has high draft picks that are busts - its just the nature of the business.
The one thing I like about Roseman is he can admit it was a mistake and move on from those guys. Jerry's ego won't allow him to admit he made a mistake. So we are stuck with - WE LIKE OUR GUYS

And, there can be value getting rid of some guys, even if the guys you get in return don’t work out. Team chemistry-wise it can be addition by subtraction. CGJ has been traded four times in four years.

Finally finished it. It really is good. Its one thing to watch the games and watch the whole story unfold through the eyes of the media but quite another to hear the story told from so many different players and coaches. Some of my takeaways:

1. I have more respect for Switzer. He really was in a 'no win' situation and was just trying to make everyone happy. He was the perfect guy for that messed up situation.

2. I think I finally understand Jerry's point of view on the whole Jimmy thing. Jimmy was more of an individualist. He wanted his credit and recognition apart from the team. Jerry thought he and jimmy were a team and really bonded those first couple of difficult years when they were the only ones who beleived in what they were building. I found it ironic that the Walker trade both seeded the dynasty and ruined it. Jerry really does beleive that he deserved more credit or shared credit for the trade, and Jimmy never denied it. It seems Jimmy taking credit for that move was the initial fracture line and it magnified everything else. I think what was happening was that jimmy would come up with ideas , go to jerry to flesh it out, and then go make moves. They were quite dynamic duo until the success and egos ruined their relationship. They accomplished a lot but both feel they left a lot of meat on the bone.

3. The series kinda skirted over the last 30 years. It didn't really delve deeply into all the errors choosing to focus more on the near misses like the Romo botched hold and Dez's catch/no catch. Romo chalks it all up to bad luck. Says Jerry is blameless.

4. I admire Jerry and what he did for the NFL and its players in terms of growing the money in the game. I just wish he had hired a nerdy football guru like Howie Roseman to advice him. He overestimated his own football acumen and underestimated Jimmy Johnson's contribution which went far beyond trades and player selection. Jimmy's maniacal attention to detail and behaviorial expectations of the players was ultimately the glue that held it all together. The further away from him the team got, the worse the team got.

Great summary, and amen to #3, it felt like there could have been two more chapters at least, including a look at how Gailey turned things around pretty well until Irvin's injury. It would have also been interesting to explore Aikman's feelings about those '98 and '99 seasons, considering we heard he was initially very happy to see the level of organization and attention to detail Gailey brought in following that Switzer era that Troy was so dissatisfied with, but that he eventually also soured on Gailey's offensive approach as time went on.

I certainly understand some teams are stronger with depth at certain positions and there may be a few guys that can improve depth, but viewing it as a 2nd draft just seems crazy.

When he was drafted, many said he would be great "if used correctly". Now, they use the same excuse- blaming his lack of success on the very excuse they gave him to begin with. His failure couldn't possibly have anything to do with his small size!

Deuce had his chance. He was drafted, and actually made the roster. The coaches saw what he is capable of every day in practice.

Would any other team have even drafted him? Now is the moment we actually learn something. Will another team claim him? What do the other 31 teams think of him? If he has as much potential as his fans believed, then certainly he will be snatched right up! This is the true measure, the acid test.

I'm glad the Cowboys have finally cut Deuce. He clearly wasn't any kind of player the Cowboys had any interest in developing or using properly. His time under McCarthy was a complete and total waste. He deserved far more than he was given. I hope he doesn't end up on the PS.

If his dad was not a scout, he would have been cut long before now.

He just doesn’t have the size, strength, or speed to be an NFL running back.

Everyone says “Sproles made it being small”, but Duece doesn’t have the quickness, agility, or strength that Sproles had.
