What's a big play ? A pick, he didn't have many of them, a forced fumble, nope, sacks, not many of those either.. He did have 96 tackels according to NFL.com, but like you said they aren't offical.
A big play is all the tackles for losses that I saw him make every time I watch a colts game. The fact that he never loses a foot race with a ball carrier, and makes his presence known with his hits. He never loses his assignment and plays within the defensive scheme, making plays without costing his team in other areas.
Listen, I'm a pretty big stat guy (like, really into stats) but even I have to say that what certain defensive players do for their team can't be measured by statistics alone (unless you're going to look at the team's defensive stats, and those certainly support Sanders).
All that being said, I've said before and I'll say now that while I have no problem with Bob Sanders winning the award, I would have probably given the award to Kearney or Ware, and I would also have no problem with guys like Cromartie or Haynesworth winning it. I just don't think anyone stood out much this year from a defensive standpoint.
