No it's not. He didn't deserve it. He's a good player, just not the DPOY.
What's a big play ? A pick, he didn't have many of them, a forced fumble, nope, sacks, not many of those either.. He did have 96 tackels according to NFL.com, but like you said they aren't offical.

A big play is all the tackles for losses that I saw him make every time I watch a colts game. The fact that he never loses a foot race with a ball carrier, and makes his presence known with his hits. He never loses his assignment and plays within the defensive scheme, making plays without costing his team in other areas.

Listen, I'm a pretty big stat guy (like, really into stats) but even I have to say that what certain defensive players do for their team can't be measured by statistics alone (unless you're going to look at the team's defensive stats, and those certainly support Sanders).

All that being said, I've said before and I'll say now that while I have no problem with Bob Sanders winning the award, I would have probably given the award to Kearney or Ware, and I would also have no problem with guys like Cromartie or Haynesworth winning it. I just don't think anyone stood out much this year from a defensive standpoint.

You should let ESPN know. They've got him down for 4. You must have caught his back to back games against Jax and Baltimore, I guess.

I'm guessing that at the end of the season Bob Sanders will gladly exchange his DPOY award for DWare's Super Bowl ring.

I believe this is backlash for 12 probowl selections. Ware wasn't even in the top 3. At minimum, there is no way Haynesworth is better then Ware.

*Waits for Adam to post why Sanders sucks and gets beaten 85.5343% of the time the ball comes near his zone in Cover 3.*

DeMarcus Ware
Antonio Cromartie
Patrick Willis
James Harrison
Mike Vrabel

All more deserving, just off the top of my head

Really 4, to go along with his 2 picks and 3.5 sacks. Yeah, he really deserved that award.

Add Madden to the hype machine. "If I had a vote it be for Sanders."

3 of my top 5 are in that list. If not Ware, my pick would be Willis, rookie or not.

Allen leads the league in sacks and gets not 1 vote? What?

I think Allen may have even missed a few games early.

Missed? No. Suspended? Yes. 2 games for DUI's. That didn't help his case.

what a joke Sanders is a good player but what exactly did he do this year to stand out?

Heres what he did, on a monday night game, Kornhieser foamed at the mouth about him for 3 hours calling him chuck norris, all over the place, and the such. It got people to pay attention to him more and every little play he did got big acclaim.

Am I sensing the beginning of a GROA movement? Awesome!

Are we getting tired of intelligent opinions generally, or just the intelligent opinions from the fans that can support their positions and spank us relentlessly with the supports? Either way, I'm down with it, because what this board needs is more knee-jerk stupidity if you ask me.

I've never said that. He's a good player and one of the top safeties in the league.

But ... he's not the best defensive player in the NFL by any stretch. He certainly didn't have the best season of any defensive player. He doesn't make a lot of big plays. He has been a below-average tackler (going into this season, and probably this season, too). And because his hype far exceeds his actual performance on the field, he's overrated.

Sanders' hype this season reminds me of when Tedy Bruschi was named defensive player of the week award, partly because he "raised his arms early in the game to energize New England's '12th Man,' " "called signals in the huddle" and was "the heart and soul of New England's defense."

Name six "big" plays Sanders made this season.

- Bob Sanders doesn't make big plays, he just stands there and they make themselves.
- If Bob Sanders has 3.5 sacks and you have 3.5 sacks Sanders has more sacks then you. If you have 16 sacks, he still has more than you. Please don't compare yourself to Bob Sanders, you will never matchup.
- Bob Sanders doesn't wear a helmet to protect himself, he wears a helmet to protect the opposition.
- Bob Sanders was flagged by a referee once, the ref, his wife, his kids, his family, even his friends were never heard from again.
- Bob Sanders can kill two stones with one Bird
- If Bob Sanders misses a tackle it was because he wanted to teach a valuable lesson to his teammates.

So what you are telling me is:

Both Chuck Norris and Superman wear Bob Sanders underwear....

I still don't get how a player who wasn't in the top 20 in any defensive categories, is somehow the #1 defensive player in the league

I don't believe you, you need more people

Ahh a Jay-Z quote, I love it! Yeah this voting was a complete joke! Ware will have to reach 18 or 19 sacks next year to prove the point, he's the best defensive player in the game...
