Ahh a Jay-Z quote, I love it! Yeah this voting was a complete joke! Ware will have to reach 18 or 19 sacks next year to prove the point, he's the best defensive player in the game...

He should have had 17. He got jobbed by 2 intentional groundings and an offsides play against the packers.

Just pathetic that they gave it to sanders. I could see giving it to a few other guys. Kearny, Allen, hell give it to Cromartie if you want but Sanders? Haynesworth would have been okay by me over Sanders as well.

Yeah but he should have won this year, 14 sacks are impressive... I notice this steady increase which is great news for Cowboys fans in 2008.

I'm with you on that statement, unbelievable how a guy with the pathetic stats like his wins the DPOY, I mean he's no Ed Reed when he won it 2 or 3 years ago...

They are impressive considering he should have three more, not to mention all the other possibilities when he was obviously held bet it never got called, because if it was called, eventually the offensive lineman would know he couldn't get away with it, and Ware would eventually beat him.

He had another offside call earlier in the season like that. Wade Phillips even mentioned it in his press conference the next day. I'll have to try to find it.

I am sure other pass rushers have had sacks wiped out too by other things (penalties and such as well)

A sack wiped out by a legitimate penalty isn't a sack at all, because the infraction likely aided the sack. But how many defensive players are called for being offside when they're not actually offside, they're just much quicker off the snap than everyone else (or aniticipate perfectly)? I'm not sure I've seen another instance like that all season -- just the two on Ware. Can you think of any others, in any game?

And how many other players have had two sacks essentially wiped out by intentional grounding calls when the quarterback was wrapped up? Last year, there were only 30 intentional grounding penalties all season, so I doubt many players have had two sacks essentially taken away because of them. (And almost certainly not any of the few players with nearly as many sacks as Ware.)

Put simply, if you credit each player with all of the sacks they legitimately "should have had," I think Ware would lead the league in sacks, maybe by more than one.

- Bob Sanders doesn't make big plays, he just stands there and they make themselves.
- If Bob Sanders has 3.5 sacks and you have 3.5 sacks Sanders has more sacks then you. If you have 16 sacks, he still has more than you. Please don't compare yourself to Bob Sanders, you will never matchup.
- Bob Sanders doesn't wear a helmet to protect himself, he wears a helmet to protect the opposition.
- Bob Sanders was flagged by a referee once, the ref, his wife, his kids, his family, even his friends were never heard from again.
- Bob Sanders can kill two stones with one Bird
- If Bob Sanders misses a tackle it was because he wanted to teach a valuable lesson to his teammates.

. He has been a below-average tackler (going into this season, and probably this season, too). ;

So, can tackles be used in a strong safety debate or not?Aye yi yi....

Am I sensing the beginning of a GROA movement? Awesome!

Are we getting tired of intelligent opinions generally, or just the intelligent opinions from the fans that can support their positions and spank us relentlessly with the supports? Either way, I'm down with it, because what this board needs is more knee-jerk stupidity if you ask me.

See above.

ditto on the ESPN hype machine.

This award is in recognition of what the Colts defense did last season when Sanders came back from injury, simple as that.
