I have said before I would vote for Monk to be in the HOF. However, in my mind you can look at this and see from a "statistical standpoint" why Monk has not been a lock that most would think he would be.
Monk:
Seasons among the league's top 10
Receptions: 1984-1, 1985-2, 1988-9t, 1989-3t
Receiving yards: 1984-4, 1985-3, 1989-10
Receiving TDs: 1991-9t
Stallworth:
Seasons among the league's top 10
Receptions: 1979-6, 1984-4t, 1985-8
Receiving yards: 1977-5, 1979-2, 1981-10, 1984-2
Receiving TDs: 1977-6t, 1978-4t, 1979-8t, 1982-3, 1984-4
Rush/Receive TDs: 1982-9t, 1984-10t
Swann:
Receptions: 1977-7t, 1978-7t
Receiving yards: 1975-8, 1977-4, 1978-7
Receiving TDs: 1975-1t, 1977-6t, 1978-2
Rush/Receive TDs: 1975-7t, 1978-5t
Irvin:
Receptions: 1991-2, 1992-7, 1993-3, 1995-5
Receiving yards: 1991-1, 1992-2, 1993-2, 1994-8, 1995-4, 1997-8t
Receiving TDs: 1991-9t, 1992-8t, 1993-9t, 1995-10t, 1997-6t
Yards from scrimmage: 1991-4, 1992-10, 1993-8, 1995-9
Kind of like Bledsoe. Bledsoe when he retires is going to be one of the leading QBs in terms of "statistical" accomplishment in the history of the NFL. In my mind he is no where near deserving of the HOF. However, from a statistical standpoing you make a much better case for him deserving the HOF than Art Monk.
I am not privvy to how the case for Monk being in the HOF is being argued, but I think I would not focus on stats and focus on intangibles and where he ranks among the other WRs of his time and I do not mean statistically.
