Dr. Z says Vikes win it all - 6/20/08

If anything-Bernard Berrian's presence may have opposing D's think twice about stacking the box to stop AD.

Tavaris may suck, but an added extra weapon like BB may improve his game.

The box will be stacked until Tavares can show that he beat teams with his arm. Berrian will be a nonfactor if TJ doesnt get it together.

i've been saying all off-season long that the NFC Championship game is going to be the Cowboys over the Vikings..

sure, their QB is horrid.. but Peterson is incredible, he can single handedly win games.. they have a great O-line, and that defense could be really, really good this year.. they have enough talent to beat the likes of the Packers for the division, and the Seahawks and Giants, etc, in the playoffs.. remember, they absolutely murdered the Giants in the regular season last year..

Peterson is very good, but a running back alone cannot carry a team to the NFC Championship Game. Detroit had Barry Sanders for years and only made the NFC Championship Game once. The Vikes simply don't have a QB or receivers to be anything more than a marginal playoff team in a really bad division.

#1 - Bernard Berrian isn't that good
#2 - Jackson probably would miss him most of the time.

Dallas is the winter-book favorite. The Cowboys are loading up with all sorts of fancy names -- Zach Thomas, who has already carved out a place for himself in Miami's Hall of Fame, 'Pacman' Jones, whose pardon from the league office seems to be coming an inch at a time. Marion Barber got a new contract that stunned him by its magnificence. So did cornerback Terence Newman. They even gave Terrell Owens enough money to make him happy.

This is their year, right? Sorry, but I just don't feel it.

DUH! Wow. What groundbreaking analysis.

I don't think the vikes win it all. but I do feel they will make the playoffs.

only problem with this is the fact that the Vikings don't have a NFL level QB so yea you can only lean on the running game so much.

There is a good chance they will win the North...which is HORRIBLE. Green Bay is going to come back to earth after last year IMO.

Then again, had he picked the Giants at this time last year, we would have mocked him just as severely. You never know.

Adrian Peterson is already 8 times the RB Barry Sanders will ever be.

F'real.

So where did Dr. Z buy his doctorate?

Dr. Z went to Stanford and Columbia. However, I have never seen anything that suggested that he earned a doctorate there.

Jackson showed definite progress at the end of last year. It seems most people expect QBs to develop like Romo did and just set the world on fire. Hes got a good QB coach in Childress and he is showing progress. i see no reason to believe that trend will not continue.

The dude came out of a small school and is learning the hardest position in sports. The lights starting to flicker and i expect at some point it will turn on. Kids got talent and he works hard.

If he does then Dr Z is dead on.

That's b/c the Lions' D sucked wind. Otherwise-they had alot of weapons in the passing game, and decent(not great, but good nonetheless) QBs to work with.

Look at the 80's Chargers-as high powered their O was, it was their crippling D that prevented them from getting ahead.

Even a Rocket Scientist, FWIW, will have a hard time predicting NFL games as well.

In recent years, there's always some team that comes out of nowhere and takes the league by surprise(i.e. '07 Giants, '06 Saints, '05 Hawks, '04 Steelers w/ a rookie QB, '03 Panthers w/ a journeyman QB, etc).

My point was that the Vikes do not have a complete team. The Lions D was horrible, but they did have a good passing game. The Vikings have a very good defense, but their passing game is horrible.

You could point to the Ravens, but the Ravens had a veteran QB who was ineffective that rarely made a negative play. They also had the best defense since the '85 Bears.

What I see is inconsistency, he'll do poorly then drop a 100+ rating game - so far that's nothing more than Quincy Carter

Brilliant analysis there Ab. How about you tell us more about the journalistic prowess of PFT.

Had not Carter been blowing rails on the crazy train then there was promise for his future as well. Talent and coaching wasn't the problem.

Jackson works hard and has a good head on his shoulders. Comparing him to Quincy is worthless.
