Dr. Z says Vikes win it all - 6/20/08

Not disputing that -- I am disputing that he's done anything to make anyone believe that he's taken a step forward at this point.

Well, I can't give you who and when and where, but I've heard more than a few people say Jackson could be the real deal. This surprised me as I thought he wasn't very good. That was the rumor.

Appears he is a very superior athlete. Fast, strong, and a very good arm. Now it appears he's learning to play the position which is the hard part. See Michael Vick for the premier talent and inability to learn to play NFL QB. Jackson gets some comparisons to Vick's talent and is making people see the other side as well.

But I think it's a big, big leap to go from inexperienced at the first of last year to starting to get it and that bigger leap to SB. I see that as Minn's biggest hurdle this year. Much like us last year. And Minn has talent that is starting to approach our own although they don't have our depth IMO.

I think he has shown he is progressing. I do agree with you that it isn't SB ability at this point.

Adrian Peterson is already 8 times the RB Barry Sanders will ever be.

F'real.

LOL. You might wanna take that one back or put some smiley face in there or something to let people know you were just joking around.

Thanks Jobber.

Its not like this is rocket science. He got better as the season went on. Im not saying that he is going to be all world but with the talent surrounding him on offense and with that defense they can run a conservative game plan that will allow him to progress.

And lets not mistake what an offseason of hard work can do. He got a full year of experience and hes got a good coaching to help him out. The coaching staff can figure out his strengths and weaknesses. Have him work on his weaknesses. Look over film and see what defenses are doing with him etc. They couldn't do that the previous offseason so if anything hes in a great position to grow.

Oh and Ab throwing out a wholistic view of a progression is worthless. Youre supposed to be looking at how they got there not at what they had when they did. Were talking about progression not about body of work. Your statistical analysis is lacking. I really liked your 'good game' metric :lmao:

Oh and Berrian had 71 catches for 950 yards with Griese and Grossman throwing to him. I see no reason why he couldnt have similar production in Minnesota.

Hes a fine receiver and had we brought him in we wouldnt be talking about our woes at WR2.

abs and fuzzy both make good points

fuzzy, Tavaris Jackson did progress

abs, yes, not impressively, so he has a long ways to go

The Vikings?

They will win the NFC North. That much I'll give them. Win it all? Do the words snowball and hell mean anything to Dr. Z?

But it took him over 130 pass attempts to rack up those stats.

Crayton's DPAR and DVOA were considerably higher than Berrian's. In fact Berrian's DVOA was negative, which (I believe) means he's a below average wide receiver in terms of DVOA.

he would have solved our speed-threat issue though, that man can get deep

I still have high hopes for Austin this year though

In his final 3 games he had a QB rating of 66.6.

Not really a strong finish. He had a couple sporadic high QB rating games, but they were mostly low attempt games. His highest (139) was based off 12 whole attempts. Seriously, what QB only has 12 attempt in a game? He was also sacked 4 times and fumbled once in that game, so it's not exactly a shining example of a "turning point" in his game.

Do you have his drop % because thats what I really care about. i know that an attempt is still an attempt if the QB throws into coverage or makes a bad throw.

We both know that Grossman's and Griese's decision making is horrid.

I said it was progress not all world. He had that spurt when Peterson went down and played rather well. Hes still very very inconsistent.

His main issue was accuracy. Something that you could really tell during our game against him. He was all over the place. As the season went one he got better at it.

ive said that the light is flickering not that its on.

I just do not agree when people say that he sucks. hes just a young QB that had his first season as a starter. I see him getting better.

I see two good games that he had and that's it. They were against San Francisco and Detroit, who finished 29th and 30th respectively in Passing DVOA. And of course, after that he went on to have the 66.6 QB rating in the final 3 games.

I didn't watch a whole lot of his games (about 3 or so), and he just looked lost out there to me. I don't get the buzz. Yeah, he's athletic, but that doesn't make him a quarterback.

I see a guy whose completion percentage got much better starting in the Oakland game which had been his biggest weakness. I also see more than two good games but Im not going to argue with you about it.

If we'd signed Berrian, a lot of us would have been squawking about how much we overpaid an above-average WR.

IMO he's mostly hype.

Dr. Z says he doesn't believe Dallas wins the SB this year. I don't believe Dr. Z has a clue what he is talking about.

I am not sure who will replace him, but T. Jackson will be on the bench by mid-season. I don't see much difference between Minnesota and GB. Chicago wins the North.

Sorry Dr. Z, the Viking will be lucky to finish 8-8. Definately not Super Bowl material.:)

How can Chicago win the North? Granted, their defense is good but they have no offense, I see them finishing 3rd place

ITs the Vikes front line that will have to get it done- just like the Giants did last year. BUT the Vikes do not have the WR or TE the Giants had. Eli is a lot better then Jackson. The Vikes do have a very good O line and Peterson.
10-6, mayb 11-5. Probably win the North. BUT unless Jackson really improves that is it.

I think the Vikings should be in the hunt for the playoffs. Super Bowl? Not yet.

Ok this guy is an idiot... Tavaras Jackson winning a superbowl. He cant even manage a game... lol, you cant run the ball 100% of the time... this dude is crazy
