Draft a RB IN 1?

I like JJ a lot. Great back when healthy. But he has to prove durability.

Last year broken rib, broken collarbone
Now a high ankle sprain

Can we count on JJ for 16 games and the playoffs?

I believe it was a broken scapula because he was speared with a helmet, not a broken collarbone.

RB is the toughest position to play in terms of durability. Typically not alot of longevity in that position. The Boys were blessed to have one of the most durable RBs for years. That is the exception, not the rule. It's the reason we have capable back-ups. Don't give up on JJ just yet.

Depth better?

KC, Carolina, Minny, Bears, Rams, Miami, Browns, Seattle, Falcons, Denver for starters

KC yes..Carolina RB's are never healthy...Bears no...Rams??? Miami???? Browns??? Falcons??? ***?

no way on most of those

David

RB is so far down on the list that I don't see us drafting one in ANY round next year, barring injury.

Our 3 rbs next year are already set as far as I'm concerned...

Julius Jones
Marion Barber
Tyson Thompson

Nors quit Trollerizing.

You and everybody else knows that isn't gonna happen.

Your post the only one trollerizing, bud.

Your crystal ball that good? Legitimate football discussion. Don't want to participate hit the highway.

If a true elite bluechip franchise RB drops to us that is another matter. If it is just another good RB we should pass.
I agree. If that happened, and he were clearly the best player on the board, I might do it.

I see what Nors is getting at, and I don't think he's *that* far off the mark, but first round is still too high. I do think there's a good chance that Julius will turn out to not be a 30 or even 25 carry a game guy, but you can get a part time complementary back in the third or so. And I want to see how Barber turns out -- we might already have that player on the team.

Browns nope
Bronco's as good not better
Miami better # two...not # 3 or overall depth
Falcons nope
Carolina better # two...not # 3 or overall depth
Lions nope
Vikes nope
Bucs better # two...not # 3 or overall depth
Rams better # two...not # 3 or overall depth

Teams approx. in depth to us but not better.

Bengals nope
Houston nope
Indi nope
Jags nope
Steelers You have as comparable and they may be the only ones who actually ARE better (if Staley is healthy)

Carolina - RB's never healthy - neither is JJ?

Rams - S Jackson, Faulk. A Anderson, Cason
Miami - Browm, R Williams, Morris, Minor
Browns - Droughns, Green, Suggs
Falcons - Dunn, Duckett, Griffith, MccRARY

Those teams are arguably better at RB depth. Bronco's, Carolina, Lions, Vikes, Bucs as well.

I adddressed the poster claiming we had best RB depth in NFL (we don't.)

So when you filter profanity does that validate your point? TJS thats just silly

We might but if we can add a second blue chip RB into the fray we get real lethal. I want to see TT and Barber bust out a few 150 yard games before we proclaim them that kind of back. TT barely started in college and per what I read only has played 8 games in college at RB? Barber might be that guy.

Only way the Cowboys should draft a RB in the 1st if its Reggie Bush but thankfully i think we won't be in that position. The guy i really would want in the 1st is A.J Hawk, that guy is gonna be a stud. But back to the RB thing, no chance we draft one in the 1st 3 rounds.

dude good eyes... I'd love to get that guy... he is a beast... so is his partner in crime Bobby Carpenter... his dad played for BP too in NYG...Both those guys are smart, big, and athletic...

Which means squat. What I am going on with all of them is what they have done since coming into the Pros. TT needs more experience and polish but he has raw talent and for the RB position that is all that is required more often than not. BTW not many backups get the chance to put up 150 yard games but TT did nearly the one half equivalent of that in the second half against Philly.

I often thought of suggesting that cartoon as an avatar pic for you. Nice job.

No, we do not draft RB next year. Too many other needs.

For those going way overboard on our RB depth - some FACTUAL stats on poor production. TT fans are in for a Reshard Lee like crash. Atrain sucks? Eh And Barber is still a very unproven rookie.

Some factual thought on RB this year

JJ 112 407 3.6 ypc
TT 34 127 3.7 ypc
AT 30 61 2.0 ypc
MB 13 31 2.4 ypc

We are 4-2 with pretty bad run production. Thats amazing.

Tham for reference is 536 2179 4.1 ypc. We should bring him back and praise our Olineman and goof on Tham!

Better yet - EG was 132 432 3.3 ypc - statistically on par with this years backs - LOL

I tip my hat to Bledsoe - we need a running game to show up soon.

well any back you draft wouldn't be any more "proven" than the talent we already have.

After seeing the replay of where JJ injured his ankle. We are lucky its not the Musa Smith Injury..

I think the combo of Rudi Johnson and Chris Perry is a very good one. I would have to rate them better than our depth. Most know about Rudi, but Perry has turned into a much better all around back than I thought he would be coming out of Michigan

Here's another kick in the balls - this RB group is almost DEAD LAST in the NFL in YPC....... After JJ I just don't see ANY proven talent. And JJ is out.
JJ's ypc are down this year too. I attribute that to the running game coordinator and his schemes more than the players (except in A. Thomas' case).

RB is one of the positions I'm not worried about.
FS is our biggest need. I like Jason Allen out of UT if he can come back from his hip injury. There are one or two other guys that would be good, Jimmy Williams VT but he'll want to play CB. FS's are usually cheap in FA.
OL: we definitely need a young OG if Peterman isn't going to cut it. We probably need another OT also...probably day 1 picks. An ACL tear on a guy as big as FLO can really be a problem. It'll take longer to rehab because of his size, could take a long time to get over it mentally, or he just may never be the same player.
WR: debate is whether we need a speed guy or a possession guy to groom....I think Crayton is our possession guy and I like Santonio Holmes out of OSU as a speed guy. Guy can make big plays.
I don't think we need a NT this draft. In fact, we have more DL than we can suit up and I have a lot of confidence in all of them from Fergi to Ratliff. I even liked Pepper Johnson a lot in the preseason. I think he's pretty decent, just happened to be the odd man out at a very deep position. We gave Fergi too much money not to play for two or three more years at a high level. I don't think we need any one on the DL.
LB is a big need. We could use a day one LB, probably inside rather than OLB but we definitely need someone, even if James continues to get better. I'm concerned about Dat's injury and whether it will linger. We need better depth there even if it doesn't. Ahmad Brooks is a freak there but his injury and character (and likely top 10 draft status) will probably keep us away. Like AJ Hawk but seems more of an OLB in the NFL.
I have our needs ranked:
1) FS
2) OL
3) LB (I put OL over LB only because OL is more important overall to a team than LB)

4) WR
5) K
