Draft and the Cap

Draft is just as much about acquiring cheap labor as it is about restocking talent in general. Getting three rookie contracts at CB for the next four years is a huge cap benefit. CB is one of the higher paid positions in the league.
Awuzie's deal will be for 4yr/4m........that is a lot of cheddar saved

we may be one of the better drafting teams in the league.
it is probably statistically significant that we brought in a probowler every year for a number of years.
however, to expect success approaching the success of 2016 does not make sense.
if we look at the number of good players from 2014 and 2015, 2016 is a major outlier.

That doesn't speak to their drafting in general. If we are 1 SD above the mean drafting then we were 2-3 above in 2016. That doesn't distract nor is anyone saying we must repeat 2016 to be successful. You just threw out a red herring.

i already said we may be one of the better drafting teams.
i even said it was statistically significant that we drafted a probowler every year.

if you look back at our draft success in 2014-2015, we had great success with the 1st round pick.
so our 1st rounder is golden - true.
our success with the other picks was hardly stellar.
do we think dlaw is worth a second contract with his back, i doubt it.
that is why our next offseason would not involve much resigning beyond Jones (1st round pick) and Collins (not even drafted).
what great success did we have?

indeed if our drafts go back to our mean, life is not going to be full of chocolates like 2016.

I think our drafts are above average. Most would give us top ten grades drafting. Look at the number of ProBowlers we've had since say 2003.

yes, i am in agreement with that.
our drafts are above average, which mostly based on our 1st round pick.
i would focus on after 2011 with Garrett though.

i would not agree the euphoria that overvalues the other picks.
of course, if 2016 becomes the new normal (adjusted for draft position), then the team can do no wrong.
