With the regression of Doug Free, what are the chances that we potentially sign a guy like Nicks in free agency and draft Doug Free's replacement?

Well, most people think we drafted his replacement in the first round of last year's draft. I think you'll see him move to RT. If he continues to regress, I wouldn't be surprised to see an RT drafted/signed in free agency next off season.

We just gave him a large contract. He unfortunately isn't going anywhere.

Yes he struggled but he was not that bad my god people do you not understand how football teams work. He was good enough for us to win the issue was the interior line play was terrible at times. yes Doug had some games that where less than stellar but come on :bang2::bang2::bang2:

It might have helped if he didn't have 3 different players at the position next to him during the year.

With Smith on the Left, Free on the Right...that's one of the least of the worries on the team. Free will be fine on the R or L side next year.

Even if the value (bpa) was a tackle?

Tyson Smith will be starting at LT this season and staying there.

Doug Free moves back to the right side and will do fine there.

If he doesn't we're stuck this year and next with him due to his contract.

After that this would be up for discussion.

He will play better though on the right side, especially if we get some talent beside him and have a consistant running game.

I love the idea of nicks but I don't see him hitting the open market. Saints are going to franchise him after they sign brees

Free isn't going anywhere and I expect he will be a lot better than last year with all the offseason conditioning and camps and no matter if they move him to RT or not.

Has there been a player on the roster that one of these threads have been started about? The only player I think that hasn't came up is Lee, but I'm sure in the next month or so his name will be thrown out there.

If any of the top 3 tackles are there I would not think twice. Sign Nicks at LG, Move Smith to LT, move Free to RG and draft your RT.

I'm also not Jerry Jones so forget it.

Come to think of it, what do you think the chances are that we will move Lee to QB and bring QuintSy Carter back to play linebacker?

I was sort of thinking in that context, although I can't see Free playing at guard.

Free will do fine at RT, Smith as LT. And maybe we pick up a decent Guard in FA (Grubbs), (and also a CB) I feel like Nicks won't happen. And then draft will focus on a couple of DBs, a Center (maybe a Guard/Center combo like Blake), DT, OLB, ILB and maybe a TE if one high on our board slips a bit).
The order of these will depend on value at the time picked.
Good luck Boys. I will anxiously be watching the Combine this week to get a good glimpse at those players that people have been talking as potential Cowboys.

Does Tyron know about this? :D

j/k

I feel that it was just a little bump in the road to a great career and with the switch from LT to RT he will be back up to his former self

so free had a rough year and we need to replace him?

The Cowboys never seem to react very quickly to a regressing player. Even if Free were going south quickly (I am not remotely convinced of this) I doubt we would pull the trigger on an OT early in this draft. The exception could be Cordy Glenn (but only at G) in the second round or late first in a trade down. Regardless, get used to Free. He is not going anywhere for a while.

LOL

One day Free is the best LT in the NFL and the best deal, the next day he's the worst contract and can't even play RT.

With Free @ RT and Smith @ LT (except for the apocalypse) our bookends on the OLine are set for the next Decade!
