If you could go back to any draft and have the Cowboys take any player AFTER their initial pick, who would you take? No trading up.

Name the draft year, where we picked, and our actual pick along with yours.

2002 NFL Draft: 8th overall, Roy W.

Trade one safety for another: Ed Reed.

Can I be the 1st to say Randy Moss over Greg Ellis?

Great 2000 Cornerback draft
Tom Brady for Dwayne goodrich. One year before drafting Quincy.
2003 Draft
Nmandi for Newman. Newman was old for a rookie, 25 I think.

I tried to find something a bit realistic and recent memory. I went with Jermichael Finley over Martellus Bennett. Both TEs were from Texas schools and Finley went 30 picks later.

2004
Swap the #43 Pick Julius Jones with the #126 pick Jared Allen
2005 - Take Ware of course
Swap the #20 Marcus Spears pick with the #74 pick Justin Tuck
2006
Swap the #18 pick Bobby Carpenter with the #29 Nick Mangold
2007
Swap the #26 Anthony Spencer with the #46 Lamar Woodley

Yeah, I'm thinking Tom Brady or Joe Montana over anybody the Cowboys actually selected in those respective drafts.

Ray Rice or Chris Johnson over Felix Jones.

Jamaal Charles was drafted after Felix that year too. Might take him over Felix

So was Matt Forte.

2008 Draft

Instead of Tashard at #122, let's take O lineman Carl Nicks who went at #164.

2006 -- Instead of Bobby Carpenter how about Nick Mangold, Jonathan Joseph, or Greg Jennings?

Bingo! But remember Jerry was under pressure to clean the team's image at the time and Moss would have been viewed a questionable draft choic at the time, simply because WE drafted a player with baggage.

Hindsight is 20/20, but after reviewing the careers that Moss and Ellis had, I think it is safe to say that drafting Moss would have made us a better team. Jerry caved to the lame stream media pressure no doubt. But if the team's on the field play improved significantly by drafting Moss (which is my supposition), the good or service that Jerry is selling would be liked and bought more by the consumer (the fans).

Yeah, you are right on all accounts. I agree, and Jerry still kicks himself to the this very day wondering what could have been. Also, lost in all of this is Moss would have been twice as big as he was during his peak popularity if he played for the Cowboys (his favorite team). It was a tough choice to make. I really cant blame Jerry either way. Personally, I would have drafted Moss, no question, media be damned. :star:

Of course everyone here on CZ would take Ware, however, I wonder how many NFL GMs would, if they could play this game, pass on Ware and take Aaron Rogers instead.

We had two 1st rounders in '05. Now that I think back, I wonder why we didn't take Aaron with Bledsoe starting? I'd trade Spears for Rodgers anyday. That would mean no Romo though, or Romo as a back up with Bledsoe cut.

Imagine Rodgers starting and Romo as a back up, jeeze.

Ware, Rodgers, Barber, Canty, Ratliff, and Romo in one off-season.
