I think Austin is a goner.

With the corners and backs selected this weekend, we're in good shape for special teams.

Amondela can play the one spot that I don't think anyone on the roster can play as well as he can, outside of Glenn of course... and that's the slot.

If Stanback is healthy, he brings everything to the table that Austin does.

I agree with you about Austin.

His main contribution has been kickoff returner and this team now has several candidates for that role.

Guys who can do other things as well as return kicks.

Austin's biggest contributions were plays where he didn't have to actually catch the ball. I think his time has run out. Unless the team sees dramatic improvement, I think he's a goner.

I think Glenn is the least likely of my WRs to be there and I am not at all sure we won't still find a veteran WR to trade for. The question is...what will we trade?

I think 'veteran' could mean less than the 'star' receiver we've been talking about.

'Veteran' might just be a guy about to be replaced by a draft choice.

Or it could be a guy whose fallen out of favor with his team like Matt Jones in Jacksonville.

With how badly he was in the doghouse last year, he could probably be had for a late round future draft choice much like Troy Williamson was.

FB: Anderson
WR: Owens, Glenn, Crayton, Hurd, Stanback, WR not on roster yet
TE: Witten, Bennett, Curtis
OT: Adams, Columbo, Free, Marten, McQuistan

Pratice Squad:
DE from Hampton
Amendola from TTU
Erik Waldren
Stanford WR
Richard Bartel

Now almost undoubtedly someone will get injured or whatever and things will change slightly but it isn't that tough to get to 53 as we sit here today and the talent is very good imho.

True. That can also be said about last year's draft. Its possible that we had two solid drafts back to back? How long has it been since we could say that?

Great job, but I have a few changes. I think Henry starts over Jones. I also think Amendola makes the team but at the expense of Hurd and not Austin. Austin has way more potential than Hurd. He can stretch the field which is something the Cowboys don't have. Glenn might not even make the team is he isn't 100%. And even if he does, will he still have that speed we need? Stanback has the speed, but is still switching to receiver at the NFL level. Austin needs to stay. Hurd lacks big play ability.

Pacman will replace Henry if reinstated. Pacman is 3 times the CB Henry ever dreamed of being.

McQ will replace Kosier this year.

QB (3)

Tony Romo
Brad Johnson
Rich Bartel

Comment - Bartel will show too much during preseason to go back to the PS.

RB/FB (4)

Marion Barber
Felix Jones
Tashard Choice
Deon Anderson

Comments - Looks like people were wrong on the importance of FB in this offense and on how much VR likes Anderson.

TE (3)

Jason Witten
Martellus Bennett
Tony Curtis

Comments - I never really understood why people thought that Garrett would want a throwback style FB. H, F, U backs are the wave of the future. Once again we will see two tight ends on the field quite a bit.

WR (5)

TO
Patrick Crayton
Isaih Stanback
Miles Austin
Sam Hurd

Comments - Ray Sherman is a heck of a WR coach and Austin got more playing time as the season progressed. Hurd is great on ST but also is maxxed out as a WR. If anyone's job is in jeopardy its his.

OT (4)

Flo Adams
Marc Columbo
Doug Free
James Marten

Comments - this one is obvious but I have always thought it must suck to be called Flo all the time. i realize that no one would say that to a 260 lbs man's face but it is what it is.

OG/C (5)

Leonard Davis
Pat McQuistan
Kyle Kosier
Joe Berger
Corey Procter

Comment - This is my first call: McQuistan starts over Kosier this year. Sparano and Parcell's getting away from our olinemen is the best thing to happen since Campo left. With all that talent, we've done nothing but underachieve. McQuistan at LT? Sure thing, Bill.

Pat moves inside where he belongs and comes on under Houck's tutelage.

I also see roster churning with the Procter/Berger combo. They are imminently replaceable.

Defensive End (4)

Chris Canty
Marcus Spears
Jason Hatcher
Stepehn Bowen

Comments - Solid and deep me likey.

Defensive tackle (2)

Jay Ratliff
Tank Johnson

Comments - Like many others I was hoping that we would draft a DT which would push Spears to the bench and Ratliff outside but that did not come to pass. Still a good pair of tackles nonetheless. Only issue is if one goes down we become paper thin i imagine movement taking place here as well.

OLB (5)

Demarcus Ware
Greg Ellis
Anthony Spencer
Justin Rogers
Erik Walden
Justin Rogers

Comments - The top 3 are one heck of a pressure stable. The remaining three are there as ST stalwarts.

ILB (4)

Bradie James
Zach Thomas
Bobby Carpenter
Kevin Burnett

Comments - Unless something happens here there is noone else on the roster worthy of being added here.

CB (6)

Terrence Newman
Anthony Henry
Pacman Jones
Mike Jenkins
Orlando Scandrick
Alan Ball

Commetns - To me this is obvious, Ball may have to beat out Oglesby but the coaching staff has been overflowing with praise for him so i think he does that.

What has Stanback ever done? You don't even know if he can play. Is he tough enough to cover kicks? I can see us getting rid of Austin, Stanback and Amondola. Why do we have to carry 6 WR on the 53 man roster anyway. I just think that you need offensive backups who can play on coverage units. Miles Austin gives you the best chance

So are you suggesting that our Pro Bowl Center Andre Gurode will be released... or is this an oversite? With this package of players Kosier looks like he would be the odd man out b/c he makes more money than Berger. You need Proctor b/c he can be a #2 center behind Gurode and also be the #4 OG behind Davis, McQuistan, and Berger.

Also I wonder is James Marten will be mature enough to start @ RT in 2009 since colombo is in the final year of his 2 year deal?
