I understand that.

I can only look back at the 90s on DVD or video, I cannot go off of what they did. That is a snapshot in time, im sure there are teams out there that have been successful picking Offensive Lineman in the 1st round.

All I am saying is...

When I get my 1st pick in the draft...when I am on the clock...and get my crack at fixing the squad...

I look at my team and see what I need the most....I say Offensive Tackle, nothing is going to change my mind.

If Parcells wants to trade out of the 1st because he sees something he can work with, I guess that is fine.

After Offensive Lineman in the 1st Round, I want a Wideout in the 2nd Round.

I am not as concerned about the defense, this Rams game is really making me even stronger in my convictions.

The Rams have bookend 1st round OTs. Are they dominating us?

Our OL problems are more than just personnel.

This team has a rich History of solid O-line play.

Tell me the 1st round O-linemen we've been blessed with.

For every one you tell me, I'll give you six who weren't first rounders and we were blessed.

I'll take it one further for you to think about this. Give me an example of a team that had OL problems that the Draft fixed it for them. One example would suffice.

Fact, good O-line play is not about Draft position. Please see Denver for reference. We need better OL coaching. More than any other position in football, the qulaity of coaching on the OL sticks out for everyone to see. That's why so many of us miss Hudson Houck around here.

Give me Houck and Flo with our current O-line and I'll be more confident than Sparano, Flo and a 1st round OL pick.

Im not concerned about Newton, Tuinei, Donaldson, Neely, Wright, Allen and Williams because they are not on this team anymore.

Coaching doesnt seem to work with Peterman, Petitti, and Rogers.

Now I can only hope a guy with natural talent with first round pedigree can be chosen as the coaching staff is not "coaching" late rounders up.

I have seen what we can do when we go after late round picks and toss em out there.

I would go OT in the 1st Round. No changing my mind on it unless other things change.

Games over, so I will have to end this argument.

Been a good on though :D .

I would take them over us.

They have been alot more successful then us here recently....

Damn, Bledsoe down again

Damn, another pick by Bledsoe mainly because of too much pressure and having happy feet.

Damn..I would kill for Orlando Pace.

Im out

He isn't?

:wink2:

Our OL philosophy bothers me more than the personnel. That is coaching.

I wouldn't be opposed to drafting a tackle in one. However, its naive to think there aren't other positions to fill. Its also downright foolish to say "We have to draft OL in round 1.". What if there is a run on tackles and you are drafting a guy with late 2nd round value in 1? That's dumb.

Its also a deep OT draft. You have to draft smart and not just to fill holes.

In case, anyone missed it, Dallas had some real problems getting to the passer and stopping the run this year too.

Typically, you can field a good OL with lower round draft picks, FAs, etc. I had an entire post on this. The Chiefs, Colts, Seahawks and Broncos lines are filled with guys that were undrafted, FA castoffs from other teams, etc.

I think the team needs a new OL coach. The man with experience at New Haven isn't getting it done IMO.

With the 18th pick in the first round, both Winston & Scott will be there. But what about OG. Allen and Riveria (turns 35 and 34 respectively in 06) so we gotta get some young studs to replace them sooner rather than later. Hopefully Ireland & his crew do as good a job for us in 06 draft on offense as they did on defense in 05. Sure wish we had a 4th round pick. Maybe there some way we could pick up another 3rd or 4th rounder.

An excerpt from the FWT shows the experts are thinking OL is #1 priority....hum..

COWBOYS NEEDS FOR 2006

1. Tackle Flozell Adams should be back to solidify the left tackle position, but improvement must be made on the right side by either Rob Petitti or a replacement.
2. Safety That the team considered bringing Darren Woodson out of retirement for the playoffs is a definite sign that they are not comfortable with what they have at safety.
3. Inside linebacker With Dat Nguyen set to retire, the Cowboys need a starter opposite Bradie James and quality backups for depth.
4. Kicker The Cowboys made four changes at kicker in 2005. They need someone they can trust and count on in 2006.
5. Receiver Keyshawn Johnson and Terry Glenn are still productive, but they are aging. A speed receiver for the future is a definite need.
Also, if Bill Parcells decides to step down, move a coach to the top of the list.

The OL has to be addressed but that will come from a return of Flo, developing Petitti, improved health of Rivera and a potential free agent signing at OC.

I'd make signing a top notch OC my free agent priority of the off-season.

While we seriously need better OL play its not as if the position has no players coming back. FS and LB really lack bodies. If we do end up cutting Ellis and Glover then the DL will need bodies.

Once we get to round 3 I'd seriously consider going OL every selection.

I agree that OL needs to be addressed in the off season. Really, one of the key evalutions needs to be the future of Petitti IMO. Obviously, his Rookie year is going to be a difficult evaluation, at best. However, the determination has to be made on what his actual physical ability will merrit. Can he play RT in the NFL? If the answer is no, then I think OL becomes our top priority and this is a good year to get a nice prospect at Tackle. If we think he can be the answer, then the question becomes, how well will Adams come back? Interior line play improvement is imparative. Can we finally all agree that we get pushed back at center all to frequently? Can we acknowledge that center must improve? This business of contending that Johnson is OK or Gurode can get it done is rediculous, based on this years play. Both are well short or what is needed IMO. QB can last another year but if somebody is there, I'd take them. Last night should show everybody that WR is a critical need for us. We have needed another for some time. Still a huge need IMO. FS is a must. Another OLB and I think maybe even an ILB. Outside of FS, I think our defensive back field is solid. I think defensively, LB is the biggest need. I still believe the 4-3 is a better fit but honestly, it is what it is. If we went to a 4-3, then I believe that only a good MLB would be needed for the front 7. If we stay with a 3-4, then we need a real NT, another OLB and ILB in the front 7. Lastly, we need to find a good kicker. This, IMO, is as important a need as there is for us. We need someone who can kick from 50 and can get kickoffs deep. JMO.

I don't believe were that far away. I think that we ended right about where we could realistically expected to. I never believed we were a 10-6 team, or better. I think the opportunity was there and I'm greatful for that but we should be thankful for the 9-7 IMO. It's marked improvement over last year.
