No matter how u slice it a LB will be drafted within the first 3-4 Rounds. This is now a given. This is why sometimes times can’t just draft whonwe want or whonis there.

LB in mind? Beside the obvious?

Now that Hitch is gone, MLB is arguably our biggest need.

It sounds like Smith will be playing SAM and Lee will obviously be playing WILL.

They will probably get a cheap LB in FA...and by cheap I mean a guy who was a special teams guy who would rotate in on occasion on Defense or a guy who did get defensive starting time but was nothing to write home about...aka Jag.

Then draft at least one LB. in the first three rounds.

MLB/OLB in the first Leighton Vander Esch, Backup in the 4th or 5th Oren Burks or Genard Avery preferably Burks because he can play all 3 spots Avery is just a MLB but he is a thumper.

A name that got some buzz a few years ago but tapered off was Malik Jefferson out of Texas. Anyone have any thoughts here? 2nd round potential or later, perhaps. Admittedly, I haven't done a lot of homework on him so if I'm way off, disregard.

I like Micah Kiser out of UVA for the 4th-5th.

I like Jefferson.
love his size.
def in consideration for 2nd Rd.

Micah Kiser, Fred Warner, Gerard Avery, Jack Cichy, and Tegray Scales are mid to late round guys I like.
Jack Cichy was once projected a 1st round talent prior to his injury. That equals a potential 2nd round pick for Jerrah and company.

Cheap 1 year prove it deal with Preston Brown or Demario Davis maybe even Jon Bostic. Shouldn't be a problem there are actually quite a few Inside Linebackers available for a bridge spot/ backup role this year in FA.

Brown is unlikely to be cheap.

Jefferson has all the length and athleticism you want in a Linebacker but he lacks instincts, he gets washed out of the plays to often. I think he would benefit from a true 1 tech in the nfl that can prevent lineman from getting to the second level.
Kiser is a great linebacker instinct wise, a little slow of foot though he actually projects lower 2nd or upper 3rd

your right he did lead the league in tackles but he may take a 1 year prove it deal, since he has just that one good year to go off of.

He's never missed a game and has over 100 tackles in each of his 4 seasons, leading the league last year. He's not a "prove it" deal candidate.

I’m hoping we get Genard Avery. I taught him US History when he was in middle school. He is a good dude & he can play some football.

Yep, it's a priority. We've got 3 of them to replace when it's all said and done. And one legitimate starter on the roster now who'll be 32 and has a history of soft tissue injuries costing him multiple games.
