Draft QB Carson Wentz

He was viewed as a 2nd round draft guy by some internet draft guys and gurus...he was always viewed higher by team scouts.

Just like Aaron Donald last year.

Many scouts had him as a top end player...took the draft guys and "gurus" a little longer to catch on.

This is not a case of going to the combine and blowing it out of the water and improving draft stock a great deal like Poe did.

Sorry way to much hype for a guy that isn't dominate against top talent

That's your opinion.

It does not make it so.

The scouts have been high on him for much longer period of time than the normal football fan, amateur draft guy and draft "gurus"

Scouts are more important to teams than internet draft guys.

I guess D.Ware was over hyped as well while playing for little Troy (State) even though he was not a top end name to the normal fan a few months prior to the draft.

So it's opinion that I say a guy is over hyped when people say he is God and better then Staubach and Aikman, he is going to tear the league up winning multiple rings in a row. ......

Fact. ....Wentz is over hyped. Could he be great sure, could he bust sure but to compare him greater then Montana is silly and called hype

No, I have no interest in Brandon Doughty. You could at least get his stats right if you are using stats alone to justify picking a player. Its 111 Tds vs 34 Ints.

This game is easy. Would you draft this guy?

70. 4 career completion percentage
371 completions per year
131 Tds vs 42 Ints

Or what about this guy

Senior year

74.3 completion percentage
326 completions
142 Tds vs 28 Ints in his career

Shoulda stared the "97 td vs 19int" over 2 year window..... More than any other QB in Ncaa history....

Sorry grumpy

I'm not grumpy at all. I'm pointing out how misleading collegiate stats can be. The question remains. Would you draft those 2 QBs I listed?

Ware is a fantastic example.

Indeed. Three or four years worth of game tape goes by the wayside in favor of one "all star" game, one underwear Olympics, and one scripted pro day.

One of the players I remember in recent memory was Dontari Poe. Virtual unknown until like, the combine. All of a sudden he's going 9th overall.

Hasn't lived up to his draft hype/positioning AT ALL.

BP man, I know people love Wentz around here but DeMarcus Ware was an athletic freak when he came out, and was a part of that prototypical "tweener" era of draftees.

Actually, wouldn't the apt comparison be Blake Bortles? Went from little talked about to the best QB prospect in the draft?

Don't even bring up Donald. The usual suspects were convinced he was a bust half way into his rookie season because he wasn't starting.

71.9 completeion %{lead ncaa}
388 completions {lead ncaa}
97 td vs 19 int career

Would you draft him?
Here is a kid from a Spread offense....we should've drafted him also: 123 TD's vrs 29 Int's, 13,000 yards and best of all 31-8 record vrs Goff total 14 wins over his 3 years........

Soph year---- Went 227-of-382 (59.4) for 3,316 yards with 25 TDs and six INTs in 11 games (10 starts) in 2011 after taking over as the starter in Week 2.

Jr Year---- in 2012 after going 359-of-555 (64.7) for 4,712 yards with 45 TDs and 13 INTs in 15 starts

Sr Year......... Had an unbelievable senior season in 2013, leading the NCAA (all divisions) in passing yards after going 447-of-675 (66.2) for 5,401 yards with 53 TDs and 10 INTs in 14 starts. Was the only QB in the NCAA to top 5,000 yards

ps.........it was Dustin Vaughn who spent 2 years in camp with Dallas....with no progression out of a spread offense, and winning was a habit with him........he didn't have to throw his OLine teammates under the bus to save face....

Goff is Steve Walsh 2.0 without the scalps (wins/Natty Champ) hanging on his belt......

Let's hope that happens. The hype for a guy that was viewed a 2nd round pick just 2 months ago is funny

Many thought in early Jan that if he had a good Sr bowl he'd move into the mid first. Jumping to the top 5 may be extreme but he was being viewed as a solid first at season's end.

He was still viewed as a 2nd rounder by everybody until after the senior bowl. Tired of the hype
