Draft question

I was always taught that value for drafting more or less followed the $$$.

1) QB
2) CB
3) DE
4) OT
5) WR
etc

With this said, and the needs of the Cowboys being large at this time.

Since QB and CB seem to be resolved --

Wouldn't Dallas be looking at DE and OT in the 1st round?

I know that interior linemen on both sides could be upgraded, but from what I was taught, they aren't high on the value list -same with S.


Why do most here think we will take an interior OL or Safety?
If they can't sign Spencer to a long term contract - I would think they would be drafting to replace him.
If they don't think Free or Parnell are the long term answer - I would think they would be drafting high to replace them.

I know that interior OL and DL and S are needing upgrades, but IMO these positions don't usually provide the value that I think Jerry wants from a 1st rounder.

Where am I missing it?

If a team is drafting top 5, then this is true; however, at #18 you could have 2 interior OL that would be top 5 picks if they played those other positions.

At #18, the Cowboys could be in the position of choosing between a Interior player that is the very best at his position compared to an OT that is the 4th best player at his position.

Seems like really good interior linemen -- say Larry Allen --- are taken 2nd round, but there is a large amount of really good OT that were taken in the 1st.

Seems like interior OL fall quickly.

There are plenty of Interior guys that were taken in the 1st round.
