Buck Allen is a great fit for the Cowboys. He's has carried the load at USC the last few seasons and has quietly put up outstanding numbers. He's a big back with deceptive speed.

I think that as well.

Abdullah is tiny and had 24 fumbles in his career.

He would be a change of pace type, not a lead guy. I like Coleman, Ajayi and Gurley (in second Rd) as lead types. Luke warm on Allen, he doesn't seem to have much wiggle to me but I would be comfortable with him in round four. Langford might be a good option as well.

The pace certainly changes when he puts our D on the field.

My pet cat is Duke Johnson from Miami. If the Cowboys move on from Dunbar he could definitely take his spot. He's bigger and stronger than Dunbar and just as fast. I thought Dunbar would've had a bigger load than what he was given last season. I don't see him coming back next year.

True but there are tendencies if you pay close attention to how the Cowboys draft. They almost always bring in those candidates they covet
for visits and if you look at their round 1 draft picks, they like to draft the best player rated at a position...any position and Jerry is willing to
move up at times to get that player. That could be DE, WR
RB, Safety, CB, LT, RT whoever is left who is no 1 rated at his position. If there are no number 1's left at their draft position, they will look
to trade back to get value.

I do think they like to get the top rated player at a position, although I don't think there is any hard, fast rule they have about it. Meaning that if they have the second rated player at a position staring them in the face and he is rated high enough, they'll pull the trigger. That is just what I think though. I don't know that.

We know the top rated DE will be long gone by 27 (and 2nd, and 3rd, and ...)

The top rated DT rated player will likely be gone too although Dallas might have a top rated DT like Bennett that other teams will have rated lower. So there could be a chance their top rated DT is there but I doubt it.

Their top rated OLB could very well be there because 43 OLB's tend to slide on draft day. It is likely Dawson and Thompson as the top two for Dallas and either could very well be there. However, Dallas doesn't historically like to take 43 OLB in the first, although Shazier was going to be the pick last year. The Cowboys tend to find their LB's in the 2nd and 3rd when they've run a 43.

MLB could see the Cowboys top rated guy still there at 27 too, but the same caveat applies to MLB in regards to Dallas liking them in the 2nd and 3rd. I think there is a good chance they like Perryman a good bit but Dallas typically pays more attention to length than many clubs and so might not like him as much as I think they do.

At safety, Collins is probably their top ranked guy but I don't think Dallas will see him as a first round prospect for them because he is a redundant player at the position because of JJ Wilcox and Church. There just aren't really any first round FS types IMO and I don't think Dallas will feel there is either..

At CB the top rated guy will be long gone by 27 but there are a few guys who could be late first round prospects and probably pretty good value at 27. I could see Dallas going corner at 27 because they have admitted on more than one occasion that they think that is an impact position. If a CB they have ranked highly is there at their pick, I don't think they'd hesitate too much. However, I could see them having 3 or 4 corners ranked closely and taking a trade back into the early part of the second round and still getting one of their guys. Personally, that isn't a preferred option to me but the team has been so good at finding talent for a while now, that I'd trust their judgement.

On offense, I don't think there is any way they use a first on a QB, WR, C, TE or Fullback, so I won't address those positions.

Dallas has been following their board so closely lately that I think there is a good chance they go BAP (within reason) in the first. At RB, if they have Gurley or Gordon rated as their best at the position and way above everyone who is left, I can see them doing it. That would be the only way though. More likely they'd go with someone like Ajayi in the second if they wanted RB early.

On the OL, I don't think their top ranked OT or OG will be there, although there might be a chance for the guard depending on who they prefer. However, this is a position I could see them taking their 2nd or 3rd ranked player if someone like La'el Collins or Cameron Erving drops to them. That would be really good value at 27 IMO and I think a realistic option for Dallas to take there, though I see it as less likely than defense.

So, there is little chance their top rated player drops to them at any position other than OLB, MLB, RB, and maybe OG. And three of those are positions they normally don't take in the first... The only other position (OG) is one where Dallas used a first round pick last year and up until recently was also a position they didn't want to use a first round pick on.

What does that all mean? I'm not sure. I could see them taking an OL, DT, DE, LB, or CB at 27 even though he might not be their top ranked guy at the position, and if I had to guess now, I would say one of those positions. I think the DE's are going to be pretty picked over by the time they pick, so I'd lower the likelihood of that being the pick. They really need defense, so unless an OL blows them away, I don't think they take one of them with their first.

That leaves DT, LB, and CB. So, it might can be narrowed down a little more to those 3 positions. DT and CB are positions that Dallas feels like are impact positions and are worth a first round pick, so I'd think both of those are more likely than LB unless the LB is just ranked so high that Dallas feels like he's worth it like they apparently did with Shazier last year.

I can also see them taking a RB if he is highly enough ranked by them but I don't see it as likely.

Great post **
Pretty much agree with your thoughts
I think that unless someone falls they really like, they will look to trade back to the top of rd 2

I agree. I see a trade back as a real possibility. There will be players there in the early 2nd like Dawson and Perryman at LB (and maybe even Thompson), and probably some corners they like... perhaps someone like Kevin Johnson who is a pet cat of mine. I'm afraid he might rise too much and sneak into the first but maybe not. There might be some DE's that Dallas would feel better about at a pick like pick 37 instead of 27 too. I think DE is more likely if they do trade back.
