9 DALLAS COWBOYS: PRINCE AMUKAMARA, CB, NEBRASKA

Scouting Report
Anyone who watched the Cowboys play this past season is fully aware of the issues they had in coverage. Terence Newman, who was once one of the best cornerbacks in the business, is going to be 33-years-old and is starting to slow down while the play of former first round pick Mike Jenkins has absolutely fallen off a cliff. Needless to say, if either Patrick Peterson of L.S.U. or Prince Amukamara of Nebraska is available it probably wouldn’t take Jerry Jones long to pull the trigger. Amukamara possesses the size, speed, fluid hips and physical nature that you look for in a top-flight, shutdown cover guy. In fact, there really isn’t much separating Amukamara from Peterson and it’s basically a 1A and 1B type of situation. Dallas could also be in the market for some reinforcements at defensive end since Marcus Spears, Jason Hatcher and Stephen Bowen are all due to become free agents, so keep an eye on Alabama’s Marcell Dareus or perhaps even Wisconsin’s J.J. Watt. The Cowboys could use an infusion of youth along the offensive line as well and if an offensive tackle does emerge as a legitimate Top 10 possibility they would likely be in the conversation for Dallas.

Von Miller at 3, wow.

Cam Newton will go top 8.

Patrick Peterson at 7 to SF

Screams "trade down" with the way he's got the rest of the draft playing out. All the 3-4 DLinemen and offensive tackles are going in the 17-25 range

NFLN says Smith at 9, this says Smith at 31..........

I would be fine with Prince at 9 or a trade down if Peterson/Quinn are off the board.

For those thinking corner, what about Jimmy Smith (Colorado) or Ras-I Dowling (UVA)? Obviously this would require a trade down, maybe even sneaking one early in the 2nd, but both have great size 6-2 200+ and good measurables, Dowling is a great tackler. I'm just not sold on Prince at 9.

I'm a fan of what Jimmy Smith could be, but not what he is right now. He displays a lot of natural coverage ability (ala Derek Ross...remember him?), but his technique is often sloppy and the main thing I don't like about him is that despite his size, he's not a willing tackler.

i love miller but agree 3 is high . I guess they think he wows em at the combine it's a legit assumption because this guy is one of the best pass rushers in this draft . maybe we snatch him at 9 beacuse i doubt he gets past the texans at 11 . In this scenario maybe Wade still likes some guys on our d espcially spencer who we could try to get a 3?
