Last years #4 pick Amari Cooper's contract was for 4 yrs and 22.7 million. Do we want to pick a QB at #4 and pay him 5.6 mill (more this year) to sit on the bench? Add that to Romo's 22 mill and whomever is going to be the backup and your talking around 30 million tied up in the QB position in which 2 of them won't be playing much if at all. Give me the defensive BPA at #4 all day long. This team will have the talent to go all the way this year. It's a no brainier.

Chad Henne just signed a 2 year $8 million to be a b/u QB. Why are we supposed to care about a future franchise QB/backup QB getting a 4 year $22 million contract?

We thought that last year and how did that work out?

As for the money, we paid $5,106,200 in dead money in 2015 to Miles Austin so I don't think paying the rookie QB is going to be a major problem.

Romo is week to week. Stop this multi-year nonsense.

Do you want...Quincy Carter, Anthony Wright, Chad Hutchinson, Drew Henson, Vinny Testaverde, Clint StoernerRyan Leaf, Drew Bledsoe before we find our next QB...because that is some of the names of the Starting QBs we went through after Aikman and before Romo.

So to answer your question...You damn skippy I want to draft a good QB (if they feel one is a franchise QB) with the #4 overall pick to backup and learn behind a Tony Romo who has thrice broke his collarbone and has a documented history of back injuries.

If they feel one of the QBs that falls to them is a Franchise QB it is almost insane not to take one because it would prove they did not learn their lesson with Aikman all those years ago when he had multiple concussions and a documented back injury history so instead of drafting a potential franchise QB to groom and back him up they stuck with them mentality of trying to keep surrounding him with talent to help them when another Superbowl.

That did not work out so well...doing it again is insanity if they have not learned their lesson.

It all hinges on if they think one of these QBs are franchise players or not. If they do not and think there is not much difference between them and a QB they can get in the 2nd or 3rd round...so be it, I think they are crazy but they have to trust their scouts.

But if they have a first round top 5 grade on a QB that falls to them and feel he is a franchise player and they still don't take them...that is stupidity and insanity and any other negative way to describe it.

What really kills me is for someone to actually ask the question and act like saying otherwise is a no brainer....crazy

I want to win now and next year. We need alot of help on defense. Use that money to get another FA on the defense. It's a no brainer and it looks like the FO agrees. We'll see.

Jerry wanted to win now with Troy...it has cost us 20+ years of futility...your no brainer attitude...truly is no brain and you are agreeing with the same FO that cost us the last time.

Sorry...you can argue all you want...I have history on my side on this issue.

No Brainer lol

I say we address the defense through fa and we use this opportunity to shore up our offense. Our D was top 10/last year and kept us in many games our offense sucked. I say we go Goff in 1 and Kenneth Dixon in 2 (he reminds me of Faulk). Then our QB RB and we are set online are set for a decade....Dixon will help our D

Address the defense in fa take your QB at 4 and mostly defense In the draft. Get your franchise qb and compete. (If they grade them as a franchise type) Simple as that.

Dallas won't do anything in fa though

The way the contract will be structured would be more like 4 mill the first year, 5 mill the second, 6 mill the third and 7 mill the 4th, with a 5th year option.

It's really about percentages of the cap. If a backup qb is making 2 million a year, he's at 3% of your cap then it's not an issue. How it all fits is big picture is different, but he would be worth it at that.

That's fine. We will see if the FO agrees with me or not. It's just my opinion.

Yes...they probably do...and yes it is your opinion...and yes it is ok to disagree.

However...if we do that, we are failing to learn from our past mistakes and will pay for it and by pay for it, that is in a negative way.

You really don't know that for sure. This team is close to being a championship team IMO. With FA and a strong defensive draft were there. If there was a sure fire franchise QB there St #4 then take him. But there isn't so take the defensive BPA at #4 and maybe a QB in the 2nd or 3rd. Leaning in the 3rd.
