That is flawed logic on your part unless you think their point is that small school players are ON AVERAGE better than big school players. And nobody on the planet thinks that.

Exactly. It just shows there is great talent to be found at small schools.

Hmmm...Troy University...a guy named DeMarcus Ware...how does he fit into all of this.....

Silly comparison we are clearly discussing later round guys. Ware was a consensus top 15 pick

All small school guys through 2003.

JJ Wilcox - Georgia Southern - I like his game but have to see where it goes

BW Webb - William and Mary - Hot and cold and looked overmatched at times. Needs to get stronger.

Caleb McSurdy - Montana - scrub from the 222nd pick

David Arkin - Missouri State - Cowboys training program failed to build him up to adequate strength. Dolphins are trying now.

Josh Thomas - Buffalo - cut in training camp and is currently the nickel corner in Carolina. They play good defense but I don't know that he does.

AOA - Indiana/Pennsylvania - athlete with no football skills or awareness. never picked nay up and washed out.

Sean Lissemore - William and Mary - well if cutting him wasn't the hugest gaffe the FO made last season. 3-4 DE traded to a 3-4 team. He can play for a 7th rounder.

Jason Williams - West Illinois - athlete, primadonna and scrub washed out quickly. he keyed off the worst draft in team history

Robert Brewster - Ball St.- PED

Eric Walden - Middle TN State - didn't catch on here but went on to GB where he carved out a role as a SOLB contributor.

Doug Free - Northern Illinois - Free was somewhat of a coming out party for Northern Illinois who has since established itself but 7 years ago they talked of him as a small school find.

Courtney Brown - Cal Polytechnical - athlete and brain found better things to do after a couple of years in the NFL.

Pat McQuistan - Weber State - ugly ugly man and career backup that has started 11 and played in 72 games over his 8 year career.

Demarcus Ware - Troy - it may be a big student body but no one had heard of the guy coming out so the program fits here.

Justin Beriault - Ball St. - started fights in practice and the coaches talked him up but an early knee injury and unsuccessful microfracture surgery scuttled his career before it started.

Patrick Crayton - NW OK St- loudmothed playmaker started here during the TO era and ended up with over 250 career catches.

Zuriel Smith - Hampton- Parcells was fond of kick returners that sucked in his effort to replace Dave Megget. Z was one of them.

--------------

That is not a recent history of failure as all of these guys were picked no sooner than the third round but for Ware.

Silly?....title doesn't state late round picks. Excuse me for misreading something that is not there.
And if it did, it wouldn't be the first time a thread went off the topic.

I'm in total agreement with what Will McClay had to say about the big vs. small schools. In favor of strongly considering the big schools first above the small ones. At least you know the big school guys won't wet their britches playing for a big-time program, nor in a big-time game. I dunno how his picks will turn out over time but I do admire what he did this year with the 7th rounders.

There are players that are overlooked coming out of high school.

News at 11.

It doesn't matter where they went to college. It's about measurables and game tape. Look at Khalil Mack. Picked 5th overall out of buffalo.

I believe Buffalo joined the MAC which has been increasing sending and more and more 1st round picks to the NFL

Example: Eric Fischer last year. Randy Moss and Big Ben also come to mind.

Buffalo is a small school. They probably didnt have another player get drafted.

Talent is talent, whether you play in SEC or division 3.

Position has to have something to do with it too, Big schools just don't turn out enough(pro ready) QB's to supply the NFL and big school rb's seem to disappear regularly.

Great point! Didn't really occur to me, but you are completely correct regarding those two positions. So many college teams using gimmick Offenses (QBs), and the big time RBs tend to flame out (increased workload and superior talent @ OLs - compared to their competition).

I would have no problem having a roster with only SEC players on it. The SEC is basically NFL jr.

Exactly how I feel. Look at teams like Seattle and San Francisco who are SEC heavy

Totally agree that talent is talent.
Dead on.

Buffalo is a D-1 program now and this years class has 7 rookies in NFL camps. Not bad.

Right on. Mack probably enrolled there before they became a D1 program. Not sure. Wasn't trying to blast buffalo, But there no bama or FSU. It didnt effect Khalil Mack's draft value. Scouts care more about the player and less about the school.

Early round picks rarely come from small schools. When they do there is considerable consensus on them. So applying even the most basic of critical thinking skills here leads to a discussion of later round picks.

so everyone in the world is to blame for Arkin's failure except Arkin?

No, it does not. Or as you say, the most basic of critical thinking skills, according to the title states big schools vs small schools....I do not see anywhere it says late draft picks only to be discussed....
Don't need to do a lot of deep thoughts or critical thinking with the title.

Your post really embodies that last sentence. You show neither deep thought or critical thinking

we could have had the other Troy guy, Osi, but we took Al Johnson instead. I really wanted Osi, he would have been awesome next to or opposite Ware.
