I know it's still early, but my goodness, the more I read about him, I'm targeting him at 12. Word has it, he's going to blow up the combines ( workouts).

No. 10 Sonny Styles, Ohio State, linebacker

Styles has started 28 games and won’t turn 21 until November. Last year, he finished second on the team in tackles with 100, with 10.5 TFLs and five broken-up passes. The son of former Ohio State star Lorenzo Styles Sr., who won a Super Bowl with the St. Louis Rams, is a remarkable athlete. At 6-4 1/2, 243 pounds, he broad jumped 11-0, vertical jumped 40 inches and squatted 675 pounds. His body fat is 10 percent. If not for Jeremiah Smith, Styles would be the Buckeyes’ biggest Freak. (The truth is, it’s close between them.)

“He’s a little faster,” Styles said of Smith, who hit 23.5 mph this year. “My one last year was like 23.2. My most recent one was 22.8. He’s rolling. We’re super competitive with each other. We’ll do bike sprints against each other. We’ll push sleds. We have a bunch of great athletes always pushing each other.”

Like Smith, Styles credits his father for helping him get a good start on developing his Freaky athleticism.

“When I was younger, I did a lot of explosive training with my dad,” he said. “At 5, 6 (years old), we were doing ladders, running with the parachutes, doing broad jumps up hills, box jumps, jump squats. He always made everything a competition.”

Styles said DB Brenten Jones, a 6-2, 205-pound former walk-on, is in the running for biggest Buckeye Freak: “He runs like 23.5, jumps 11-feet broad. Vert’s almost 40. He is a Freak.”

I think there are better prospects at more valuable positions, but in a worst case scenario I wouldn’t have a problem with Styles at 12.

I'd be ok with Styles at 12 but he wouldn't be my first choice. I'm hoping he drops to 20 because of his position. Or close to 20 and then we move up a couple spots for him

The entire Ohio state team of eligible players may go in round 1 at this rate, lol. Sonny does look like he can be a great player, but I really do wonder if some of these guys on Ohio State are successful prospects because of those around them, rather than being the player that makes the team better. I guess that's something scouts have to sort through, but no doubt we'll hear a lot of Ohio State players called in round 1 in April.

I know its completely unfair but I am getting Bobby Carpenter flashbacks
one of TWO OSU LBs considered sure things
son of a former NFL player

Big fan of Styles...but as I just posted in another thread don't see much different in him and Anthony Hill Jr. Hill has more experience, more production and will test out as another freak athlete IMO.

Styles at 12 seems rich for an off ball LBr but the class is bad so might be worth it. I'd prefer a more premium position but outside of Bailey I'm not sure there is a player that warrants the pick.

Extremely versatile. Can play Will or Mike at a high level. This was his 1st year and Mike, and played it like he had been playing there all along. Speaks to his ability to learn and adjust

Would be an excellent pick at 12

I'm not sure he's getting past Quinn......he is looking for the next Parsons for his defense.
Quinn values off ball LB's, but he needs pass rushers desperately. He needs CB's bad too. I dont see him passing up on of those two for an off ball LB

Our pick is probably Styles ceiling. Nothing against him, its just the position isnt valued and he isnt generational

our problem is we are without a 2nd or 3rd pick and we need a REAL MLB type we can count on pretty desperately. watching Murray this past season nauseated me. Of course seeing Kendricks still playing well was even worse.
Can we believe our brain trust (vomit) will do anything other then dumpster dive this offseason for one?

I could see them going after Quincy Williams. Wont be expensive. However even with him not being a high tier FA, he should be well outside the range of what we normally sign

I could also see them planning in filling it in the 1st round. There are 3 first round MLB's. Styles should be available at 12 and Allen and Hill should be available at 20

Keep in mind this isn't my endorsement for this philosophy lol. Just what I can see them doing

done different mocks hard telling where hes going to go.Ive seen as late as early 20s which Id be shocked if he lasted that long. Im targeting Downs, and Bain jr first then Bailey or Faulk but if styles end up the consolation prize thats a good problem to have.
