I go with Irvin, but I don't think you can go wrong with Pearson or Hayes.

- I'd go with Bob Hayes even over Michael Irvin, .. as Hayes changed and evolutionized the way NFL defenses had to play him... it was zone coverage or death to
NFL secondaries, because Bullet Boy's phenomenal speed may it that scary for opposing defenses.

- Irvin had such an alpha male presence and he could out-physical even the HOFers' such as Darrell Green, Aneas Williams and Rod Woodson,.
. plus he was THE emotional and inspiring leader for the 90's dynasty team.

Pearson and Irvin are tied for first, both worked hard, were clutch and showed up in huge in big games..........I was fortunate to see both play and the way they dedicated themselves to the position was unmatched. You cant write the great moments in Cowboys history without either of these two.
2 of the toughest players in our history.
at home.
on the road.
didn't matter.
they played their best when the stakes were highest.
drew is a 1x world champ.
mike...3x.
that doesn't just happen.
those 88's earned every ring.

If your really going to try and say that Pearson was better than TO, then your not qualified to discuss football.

TO is one of the best wide receivers to EVER play the game of football. Even though the guy was a moron. He made Pearson look like a chump.
. :starspin::flagwave:

TO dragged drama into every locker room . His tearful mia culpa leave Tony alone was hilarious . All Drew and Roger did was winning winning 2 SB bro . Pearson invented 88 . He should trademark it .

That's comical. Even Drew wouldn't compare himself to Irvin.

Why doesn't Irvin get more respect. He is a top 5 WR all time. He's the only WR that Deion ever had problems covering.

Irvin borrowed 88 ….from Pearson . Now Lamb doing it justice . Irvin’s back injury was a shame he could have done more . Now it’s a well paying gig arguing with Stephen A . Can’t beat that racket .

The original 88 has been under appreciated for far too long. Irvin obviously was great too. And you could certainly argue that the playmaker was our greatest receiver ever and I wouldn’t have a problem.

But we should always recognize that when Pearson and Hayes played, it was a completely different era of football. When those guys played, DBs were allowed to hold, face guard, and legally spear or close-line receivers in ways that today would get you either penalized or fined. Not to mention the 60s-80s were dominated by teams that ran the ball.

With that in mind, here’s my rankings for best Cowboys receivers all-time and why:
  • 1. Michael Irvin- it’s really close between Irvin and Pearson. But Irvin was IMO stronger and capable of dominating a game. Played in 16 playoff games, 3 SBs and had 8 playoff game TDs. Also a great team leader.
  • 2. Drew Pearson- played in a whopping 22 playoff games, 3 SBs and had his best games in the playoffs. Had 8 playoff TDs, including the iconic Hail Mary play that literally won a playoff game.
  • 3. Bob Hayes- literally changed pro football coverage schemes because of his speed. Averaged 20 yds a reception for his entire career. The most exciting player I’ve ever seen wear the star.
  • 4. Tony Hill- probably THE most underrated receiver in Cowboys history. Had 75 TDs in his career (8 more than Pearson), is 3rd all time in receiving yards as a Cowboy, and played in 13 playoff games, 2 SBs.
  • 5. Dez Bryant- was briefly brilliant before fizzling out too young. Had 85 TDs (the MOST for a receiver in team history) but only played in 3 playoff games.
There were some other really good ones…TO for example, but he only played here 3 full seasons. I picked the guys that had the greatest impact over time- especially in big games like the playoffs.

You make a lot of sense Bob .

Irvin (Tough. Passionate. Relentless. He could play in any era)
Pearson (Clutch but a bit thin)
Hayes (Speed personified, but if he played in this era, he'd be neutralized for the most part)
TO (Never wanted him here, but can't deny his impact ... on the field)
Bryant (A beast who couldn't run but certain routes, which is why he didn't last long)

TO was a head case, but one of the best receivers of all time.

Drew and Roger didnt win anything on their own I am certain. Another great QB that benefited from the incredible team that was put around him.

I would say Drew 88 is the best WR, and the most clutch WR in Dallas Cowboys history. The rest can fight for #2, with Hayes the favorite there. If you look at some of the biggest plays in the 70's with Staubach and then DWhite at QB, the receiver was Drew. Also Drew almost made "The Catch" by Dwight Clark just a footnote, he was barely caught by his shirt tail on his way to a TD that could have won that game too. LIttle old UDFA from Tulsa. To the HOF.

Not for nothing, but Irvin was tested over 1500 times and never failed a test. More like the snow ghost.
I’ve been in Texas I’ve seen him. LMAO. Definitely the snowman

And Tony Tolbert and Tony Casillas and James Washington and Jim Jeffcoat and Larry Allen. And.....etc.

Honestly, that team was just stacked. We won due to superior talent overall.
I was just trying to simplit fire for no brain. I know you get it

So strange how our own fanbase underrates him.
I totally understand he’s the playmaker. But the best cowboy ever. I don’t think so not even top five. Come on Roger Captain America. That should be number one

Lance Alworth was excellent, though he was only on the team a couple years. Still, he was a big contributor in the team winning its first Super Bowl.

Talking best RB’s in another thread got me to thinking Drew probably the best wide out in Cowboy history with of course guys like Bob Hayes Tony Hill in the conversation . Glad to see Drew finally get the HOF respect . Of course Michael 88 in the mix , Dez had some good yrs .

Hands down Mike Irvin and that's with the shorten career!!!

Good choice or perhaps “Bullet” Bob Hayes. Having watched Dez entire Cowboy career the man left some meat on the bone. Not sure why things fell apart so fast in Dallas .

More and more, Dez was losing his ability to separate, and he was never adept at route-running, so it wasn't like he could become Larry Fitzgerald, Antwan Bouldin
He relied more on his physical strength, but there wasn't anything there as far as foot quickness, and juke and shake moves.

Suddenly I'm reliving flashes of Marvin Harrison flying right by Deion Sanders for a Colts TD in a Cowboys loss.
And Jerry Rice wasn't always a piece of cake for Deion either. ..

too many to rank whos #1 its debatable and subjective and you are correct the most underrated WR is DEz this dudes THREE that 3 straight years of elite production was nearly unmatched by any other WR to wear the star..its crazy how those aren't seen as one of the best 3 year stretches in cowboys history,. He has 75tds his career may have been cut short but man Dez is underrated around here.. also returned punts for few years as good as most ever..

TO may not be home grown and not popular around here but his short stop here had him shot up the ranking all time for a DC..he an Romos connection was crazy good.

Most would choose the obvious ie Irvin, Drew etc i say lets not let the lack of playoff sucess and SB appearances to lesson what these other Wrs did for this team production wise.

we are getting that for Zeke of late zeke in a very short term, planted himself as the 4th best DC RB of all time in passing league era?? come on stop discounting the new cowboys over lack of playoff success and size of contracts,

I didnt get to see Drew live so i realize how great he was but weve has soem truly special players come through here and some ore being way underrated..

Learn football. Pearson doenst hold a candle to any of those guys on my list.
Why do you constantly bully other members? They have their opinion just like you have yours. Besides, this is a family forum. You don't know a posters age. Kindness goes much further.
Top 5 Cowboys All time WRs:

1 Hayes
2 Irvin
3 Owens
4 Pearson
5 Dez
According to who? You?! Not a bad order.
