love drew.
but i'd go with coach landry's last first rd pick...from the university of miami...wr...michael irvin.

Good choice or perhaps “Bullet” Bob Hayes. Having watched Dez entire Cowboy career the man left some meat on the bone. Not sure why things fell apart so fast in Dallas .

You can't pick wrong...not really. You want someone who could literally take the top off and still catch the ball? Hayes, hands down. Want someone who is always open, always running exactly the route that needs to be run? Pearson was just so crisp. Need some one who is physically dominate and not afraid to go up and get the ball? Dez.

But, since what we've been lacking for over a quarter of a century is someone with heart, give me Irvin. ALL of the WRs mentioned would be incredible assets in any era. But the Cowboys haven't had a guy that lights up the whole team like Irvin...since Irvin. I am sure we've got guys with heart on the team. But those guys got their butts handed to them in the playoffs last year. The WHOLE team plays different if you had Irvin on the team.

We lack the heart of a champion. At least from my point of view. Give me the guy that has enough for everyone around him. Irvin.

Talking best RB’s in another thread got me to thinking Drew probably the best wide out in Cowboy history with of course guys like Bob Hayes Tony Hill in the conversation . Glad to see Drew finally get the HOF respect . Of course Michael 88 in the mix , Dez had some good yrs .
That is why I have been a Dallas Cowboys fan since 1968. You have conversations about who is the team's best WRs and the discussion includes 3 Hall of Fame WRs, 2 All Time Receiving TD leaders, and WRs that have been to 3 or more Pro Bowls in their career.

But it is Bob Hayes, he literally changed the game, and Drew Pearson, he is why their is a no. 88 to compare Michael Irvin, Dez Bryant, and CeeDee Lamb.

drew tearson? There’s no way that punk cry baby is the best cowboys WR.

Dez, TO, lamb, irvin, Hayes all better.

I got to go with Irvin on that one. Then Drew. I would say Bryant is #2 on the list but Drew played in a different era where the defense wasn't so limited. But Dez is like #2(b). But I feel Drew was a better all around WR.

This is a hard distinction to make. We got Irvin, Pearson, Dez, Tony Hill and Bob Hayes. 3 of them are in the HOF already, Dez will be 4. My list is
1. Irvin
2. Pearson
3. Bryant
4. Hayes

But there is not a lot of wiggle room between the 4 and an argument can made for everyone on that list to be #1.
TO was better than all of them.

The hyperbole.

Irvin ranks all time 29th in receptions, 41st in yards, and 62nd in TDs, but he is top 10 all time.

Irvin is no where near a top 10 all time WR.
Egads. Does someone seriously need to explain this to you?

You said ALL TIME, it is you that needs explaining.

There was a LA Ram player that had a stint with Dallas, Lance Allworth. You would have to consider Allworth before Irvin when you speak about ALL TIME.

That is just one example of many.

irv, drew and bullett are the three greatest receivers in cowboys history and its not a debate...regardless of the order.

everyone else is battling for 4-20.

Lance Alworth was a San Diego Charger.

No. Love Drew. But there’s Michael and then we can start a debate for 2nd place.

if we’re talking best deep threat than the Bullet stands alone.

That's comical. Even Drew wouldn't compare himself to Irvin.

Why doesn't Irvin get more respect. He is a top 5 WR all time. He's the only WR that Deion ever had problems covering.

The original 88 has been under appreciated for far too long. Irvin obviously was great too. And you could certainly argue that the playmaker was our greatest receiver ever and I wouldn’t have a problem.

But we should always recognize that when Pearson and Hayes played, it was a completely different era of football. When those guys played, DBs were allowed to hold, face guard, and legally spear or close-line receivers in ways that today would get you either penalized or fined. Not to mention the 60s-80s were dominated by teams that ran the ball.

With that in mind, here’s my rankings for best Cowboys receivers all-time and why:
  • 1. Michael Irvin- it’s really close between Irvin and Pearson. But Irvin was IMO stronger and capable of dominating a game. Played in 16 playoff games, 3 SBs and had 8 playoff game TDs. Also a great team leader.
  • 2. Drew Pearson- played in a whopping 22 playoff games, 3 SBs and had his best games in the playoffs. Had 8 playoff TDs, including the iconic Hail Mary play that literally won a playoff game.
  • 3. Bob Hayes- literally changed pro football coverage schemes because of his speed. Averaged 20 yds a reception for his entire career. The most exciting player I’ve ever seen wear the star.
  • 4. Tony Hill- probably THE most underrated receiver in Cowboys history. Had 75 TDs in his career (8 more than Pearson), is 3rd all time in receiving yards as a Cowboy, and played in 13 playoff games, 2 SBs.
  • 5. Dez Bryant- was briefly brilliant before fizzling out too young. Had 85 TDs (the MOST for a receiver in team history) but only played in 3 playoff games.
There were some other really good ones…TO for example, but he only played here 3 full seasons. I picked the guys that had the greatest impact over time- especially in big games like the playoffs.
