Drew Henson: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

and here's an interesting parallel between Henson and Chutch, since you decided to bring him and his peformance in NFLE up, before Henson went to NFLE, parcells didn't say that if you can't make it over there, you can't make it anywhere, like he stated before Hutch was sent overseas, and he never said that Chutch had shown improvement while over there, like he did with Henson, so I think Parcells disfavor with Chutch began a long time before he was sent to NFLE

btw, Henson took less sacks than Chutch, had a better TD to INT ratio than Chutch, looked much more aware than Chutch, much more mobile, basically, looked much better than Chutch in every facet of the game

I expect to see something this year in camp, I did not see anything last year, this is his last chance or we move on, I will give him the benefit of the doubt, at least he was trying to get better, you know what Romo is off doing and that isn't going to help him in Dallas..

but I just don't think he did anything with the Fire to make me say "wow!"

That one play where he escaped multiple defenders when running to his right, then stoping, turning, and throwing the ball all the way across the field right to only where Zuriel Smith could get it for the touchdown made me say "wow."

Chang was sacked 6 times in just one game he started I believe. Henson was sacked total of 11 times in the games he started?

As far Chutch was concerned, more than getting sacked, it was his fumbles that caused more of an issue.

And another one to Zuriel, where he threw between two jumping defenders and then just beyond the reach of DB, for Zuriel TD, made me just open my mouth, especially after the replay show how remarkable the throw was.

What's to be said about Drew Henson that hasn't been said during the last week a dozen times over?

However, I thought I should make a comment considering the name of the thread. :D

By all reasoning Chutch should have been FAR more prepared -- he played 9 full games as an NFL starter -- he'd seen much more game action and practice time against NFL-level competition than Henson prior to leaving for Europe.

Last chance? Betcha BP and JJ don't agree with that. Because Henson will on the roster this year even if he struggles in preseason.

I honestly don't see why Henson gets so much support and praise from those who constantly defend him at every turn. He's merely a 3rd string QB who currently doesn't look like NFL starting material to me.

The reason Henson gets so much support, and should get a whole lot more, is because he wears the STAR on the side of his helmet!:starspin

You guys are right and I will give Henson credit for those plays. I guess when I say he didn't make me go "wow", I was talking about his overall play. He indeed made several impressive throws, but I guess I just wasn't enamored with him in totality. Maybe I was just expecting more out of him over there.

That's a pretty amazing stat considering Chutch was repeatedly getting sacked and producing fumbles instead of actually passing the ball. :)

Actually it makes sense.

Instead of getting rid of the ball, Hutch would take a sack. So he traded incompletions for sacks.

I'm all for supporting members of our team, but I was kinda hoping the guy would have already starting pushing for the starting job by now. He's going into his third NFL season, and I just believe he should be making some strides up the depth chart if you believe what all the scouts said about him being a #1 overall talent. Henson's either average to bad right now, or Romo is better than we think.

I heard more intelligent discussions today at my kids schoolyard about how Johnny Raggone for sure flicked a booger 30 yards and hit Maxene Pritchet dead center on the nose not once but 3 freakin' times in a row,and he's only in the third grade.Billy Bob Bowden has been a fifth grader not once but twice and couldnt do that even with the wind not blowin'.Now I'm not sayin Billy Bob is washed up or anything, but hey that Johnny Raggone has "it" Yeah by the time he's been in the fifth grade twice no one will even remember Billy Bob,not even stinky Maxene Pritchet,......Money.....booger 30 yards dude freakin awesome.Wanna go sqaush some bugs or pee on ole Miss Thompson's gladiolas.Sure

But that's totally unrealistic. He's been away from football for some time and he hasn't had live gameplay. Carrying a clipboard and playing some scrimmage can only get you so far...Parcells/Cowboys don't want to be in a full blown rebuilding mode so Bledsoe is going to be the qb while Romo/Henson are relegated to the bench rotting away. The time in the NFLE can only help Henson in that he gets to see some real action (EVEN if it's only the NFLE...) and I can't help but be encouraged by his progression as the NFLE season wore on...

Parcells was wary of playing young QB's when he got here. Then he got burned by Carter. No way was he going to let Henson or Romo be in charge of his team.

You can't fault Henson or Romo for that. And what are the chances of a young guy clearly beating out an established vet like Bledsoe? We aren't talking Tommy Maddox here. Or Jon Kitna. Bledsoe has some skins on the wall and still is pretty decent.

yall know how I feel.

Henson is a wasted 3 pick.
Until he gets a real chance to prove himself one way or another, how will we ever know?
