The rookie has taken the NFL by storm with great play and poise, often looking like a pro bowl veteran who simply doesn't get rattled. He's led the Cowboys to a 2-1 record to begin the season, and rumbles have already begun from those who want Prescott permanently inserted into the starter role even when Romo does heal and return.

Legendary Cowboys wide receiver Drew Pearson says not so fast.
"This organization really believes in Tony," Pearson said, via TMZSports. "What Dak is doing right now, Romo will do even better. When he gets back, he’ll get to prove he can perform at the same level or better than before his injury."
The Ring of Honor inductee even threw out a quote from the all-knowing coach Tom Landry regarding a situation like this.
"There’s an old saying Coach Landry used ... and it’s that a starter doesn’t lose his job due to injury. When he gets back, he’ll get to prove he can perform at the same level or better than before his injury. It’s your job when you come back as long as you can perform at the same level."

Drew Pearson is the same person that said he'd trade any Cowboy, other than Herschel Walker, for Tony Mandarich, and that we should've taken Mandarich instead of Aikman. So, I don't put much stock in his opinon. That being said, I agree with him. As long as they keep Dak a pocket passer, then Romo will get his job back, since Romo can do that at an elite level when healthy. However, if we start incorporating Dak's mobility into the gameplan, and teams have to game plan to account for Dak's mobility, and we're winning, then Tony won't get his job back since he can't do that. If we're winning based on Dak's mobility, then that becomes our identity. And, we will not change our identity just to get Romo back under Center. In 2014, when it was obvious Romo was rusty and couldn't carry the team, we became a run first team and started winning. That became our identity. Once Romo got healthy, and shook off the rust, we maintained our identity and continued to be a run first team. If we start winning based on Dak's mobility, then that will be our identity and the team will not alter their identity and Romo goes to the bench. If we're winning with Dak being primarily a pocket passer, then that will be our identity, and Romo can do that at an elite level, so Romo will get his job back. It's as simple as that. So, in the coming weeks, don't focus on just winning, also focus on HOW we're winning. That will tell you what our identity is, and we won't change our identity... even for Romo.

Stunned even one person has suggested that a quarterback with only one passing touchdown in three games replace Tony Romo...
I Can't blame fans for their excitement . This has been a long frustrating and disappointing era despite Romo's heroics keeping a poorly ran and built team relevant.

I don't think there's any question that Romo's the starter when he returns from injury. The question is whether he can stay healthy.

Yup and we finally have a guy that can win games if Romo gets hurt again. We've also found Romo's successor. We're literally set at the QB position for the next decade or more. This is a good time to be a Cowboys fan.

Until I see Dak down 3 scores and able to come back, I wont think we're "set"

Well, we haven't really been in that situation yet but we've been in 2 close games and the situation never seemed too big for him. By all accounts, one of his greatest strengths is his cool demeanor.

I think he'll be fine, but you're right, we haven't seen it yet.

Great point, glad he is not the GM !!! Aikman was our QB for 3 Super Bowl wins, what did Tony Mandarich in his days as an NFL player ?

The first time Pearson has agreed with this organization.

If Dak excels these next two games he's a made man in my books!

I would then sit Romo down and try to get a first rounder for him.
