Hey guys, just wanted to drop in and say hello to my old friends. Haven't been here in three or four months because of a variety of reasons, but mostly because message boards (and many other sites) are now blocked where I work.
Rather than rehash all the stuff that's been going on with the Cowboys over the past three months, I'll just make a prediction.
When Parcells retires (again), I think LSU coach Les Miles could be Jerry's choice to be the seventh head coach in Dallas Cowboys history.
Jerry knows him well, he has experience in the NFL with the Cowboys, and has proven to be an outstanding head coach at the major college level.
Miles has these quotes from Jerry on his website:
“On the football field, Les Miles is a proven winner who knows how to teach the game and produce results. He also has the unique qualities necessary to lead young men and make a difference in their lives.
“I believe, however, that Les’ greatest asset is his integrity and the very high level of character that he exudes naturally. Some people talk about sincerity and doing things the right way. Les Miles defines that standard on a daily basis.” -- Jerry Jones, Owner, Dallas Cowboys
I was talking to a former poster and friend of mine a year or two ago about where Jerry would turn when Parcells quit and we both agreed that Jerry would go back to the college ranks for his next head coach, but find a guy he knew and who had NFL experience. Miles fits the profile.
Jerry has hired a great college coach (Jimmy)
He has hired a former great college coach (Barry)
He has hired an NFL assistant from the offensive side of the ball (Gailey)
He has promoted from within and hired an assistant from the defensive side of the ball (Campo)
And he has hired an NFL legend who was retired (Parcells)
So, in essence, Jerry has been all over the board with his hires, but I think he goes back to the college ranks for this one.
It's impossible to know what Parcells will do. At times this season, he has shedded the sullen, deer-in-the-headlights look and seemed rejuvenated, but there are times when he seems to be slipping again. Nobody knows how his health really is. We hear each spring that he lost a bunch of weight and each year he looks the same, or worse to me.
Anyway, it's great that Dallas has a quarterback now and Parcells should be commended for how he prepared Romo for this.
Hope you all are doing well and hope you have a great Christmas.
