:lmao2:What a joke. Make a player ineligible to play in a game that means nothing and most don't want to play in anyway.

This is the same as you getting caught taking drugs on your job and not being invited to the Christmas party.

Ridiculous.:banghead:

As a parent of a son whose dream is to one day play in the NFL, I welcome this rule.

It is a very solid example that can be pointed to (without having to lecture or preach) as a consequence of substance abuse.

I could talk until I'm blue in the face about this stuff, but if I point to Merriman, and then state that his substance abuse will keep him out of the Pro Bowl this year, it will make more impact on my son than a thousand lectures or warnings.

While I will not ever yield in trying to convince my kids to stay away from this stuff, it is comforting to have an organization like the NFL (that knows that these players are role models for kids, like it or not), reinforcing the values that we try to pass on to the young ones.

I hope your kid listens, or is very, very talented

this would be a Great rule!!! i'm tired of football players not being held to the same standard as baseball players. both are cheaters so why do baseball players get more hate (for example: bonds, mcgwire) than do football players that use steroids???

It is not about playing in the game itself.

It is a money and pride situation with players.

Some players get bonus money if they get named to the probowl.

Some players see it as a sign of pride and respect to be named a pro bowler.

This can also play in later when contract time comes around or after a career in HOF voting.

So it is not about just going and playing in the game.

Although some do like going to take the family on vacation.

If it comes to pass, I'm sure it'll be labeled the 'Merriman Rule'.

Kind of nice to have a rule named for someone other than a Cowboy.

There is still time for a Cowboy to fail a steroids test and have it named after him:eek:

per Clayton

Working together: NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said the league and the NFL Players Association are close to announcing improvements to the steroid policy. Goodell has been working with NFLPA executive director Gene Upshaw about improving two main areas. First, the league could increase the number of tests. Second, Goodell said there should be improvements in the testing process itself with more advanced scientific methods. Human growth hormone testing won't be added in this wave of improvements. Goodell reiterated there is no successful test to detect human growth hormone. Urine tests have not been successfully consistent in finding human growth hormones. Talks continue between Upshaw and Goodell about possibly preventing players who test positive for steroids from getting postseason awards or go to the Pro Bowl. Goodell said Upshaw and the players have been proactive in that regard.

According to ESPN this morning (NO LINK) the NFL is considering that anyone suspended for any drug testing failure, will be automatically eliminated from not only Pro Bowl consideration, but ANY off season award.

Great............now the entire league will be on steroids seein' how they all love to play so much in the Pro Bowl game.
