I still think a lot of the problem our dline has towards the end of the game is because they are tired... there isn't enough of them active to practice and play the way Rod demands they play. In practice and the games the all run to the ball every play. If you're a 300 lb guy. You need a break and only bringing 8 to the game isn't gonna cut it. Sorry, it just aint.

Hope its a 1-tech signed!

Seems Hayden is holding up his end of the bargain. I never thought much of the guy but there was a reason the coaches liked him even if we didn't see it.

And before anyone turns this post into a coaches or Hayden or jobberone bash think about this.....when Gregory, Ro and Hardy get back you will never ever be able to say anything else against that group because trust me.....this DL is going to look entirely different with all the pieces working.

This is an important point. What's just or maybe more important is the fact if we win the TOP battle then they get to rest more than a little.

Golden Cock has been shockingly respectable, but the rest if the group is light in the pants to say the least. I know Maranelli likes his guys quick off the ball but they need someone else capable of anchoring.

Hayden is what he is. Does many things OK but the one thing he is good at is staying healthy. He does his job for the most part. Though not as talented he is the Hennings of this DLINE

I don't oppose Hayden having a role as aBACKUP, but he irks me as a starter. This DL will look entirely different this week with just Ro and Hardy. I'm like this with Mincey now. He is what he is and that's not a starter either. The sooner Hardy is inserted into the starting lineup, the better. 6 of our projected starting front seven are nice now.

Id like to see Jones starting at FS soon! He is the cover SAFETY we've been missing for a while. I don't mind Wilcox as a starter, but I think it's obvious Jones has more tools to play with and needs to be on the field a lot!

I'm not a huge Mincey nor certainly a Hayden fan. I believe we should think about not starters on the DL but the entire rotation. You aren't going to see a DL like we had in the early 90s; not for a long time IMO. Hayden is playing because no one has come along good enough to displace him. You can look at that more than one way.

We have the beginnings of a good DL with everyone suited up and able to play.

The LBs can play more snaps but they need depth as we have seen.

But Gregory, Hardy and Ro will help. We need Lee. As you can see athleticism and talent doesn't get it. You have to have the experience to know how to play linebacker which is a super safety in today's game. You have to understand who to cover otherwise Sprole is just a taste of things to come.

I'm hoping to see Keith Smith return to the practice squad if and when he clears waivers.

I'm not altogether too sure about Bishop, though. He may well end up on another team.

various:

Hayden was about the only guy making good run stopping decisions Sunday night. When he went out it was a straight up fire sale.
They attacked the flanks mercilessly.
Rod M can churn DL all he wants because he finds success there.
The open spot has to be a WR. We have no one besides Beasley that can run a route and actually catch the ball consistently.

I do believe Byron Jones will be special. But right now, he is not very good as a corner nor a safety. Lot of development still needed. Especially in physicality.

Pick plays need to be outlawed. It is offensive pass interference point blank. It has become a huge part of the game and it's cheap and tacky.
You can't penalize defenders for illegal touching while allowing offenses to use pick plays.

Has Kam Chancellor proven safety play is important? I hope the Cowboys are taking note. This team needs a safety upgrade in a major way.

Hayden's job is always going to be as a run stopper and 1st down guy. Where he shouldn't play is passing downs.
But Rod loves him and there is a reason for that. He surrounds him with 3 pass rushers and gets by versus the run.
Hayden may well last here as long as Rod does. Pretty small trade-off for even the most cynical of fans.

I have to admit that it's a bit concerning to me at how little priority and thought seems to be placed on stopping the opponents' run game. It looks to me like every move and every resource is being devoted to pass rush only.

Defensive tackle wasn't made a priority in free agency, the draft, undrafted free agency, during training camp, or once rosters were finalized.

And now I continue to see moves that are taking away what I see as run stopping defensive tackles while replacing them with pass rushers or not at all.

I'm worried that even after this team gets its' pass rushers back in Hardy then Gregory, that they will they continue to have issues with stopping the run.

Neither transaction moves the needle for me.

But you have to laugh at how Hayden somehow always survives a purge and the team thinks he's so good they don't feel they need to upgrade there.

So, assuming we don't sign anyone this week, we have the Crawfords, Hayden and Irving that can play DT?

And out of those guys, only Hayden and T.Crawford are usually out on run downs, correct?

Looks that way to me.

In other words, if you drafted LeGarrette Blount, play him this week!
