A few pieces from Broaddus' column about our DT situation:

This first one I agree with completely and gets me excited to see what we will have next year with a healthy Crawford, 3rd year DLaw, 2nd year Gregory and possibly Hardy coming back:

"The next time you want to be critical of Tyrone Crawford and his so-called “lack of production,” take a moment and go back to re-watch this game. Crawford is banged up in the shoulder area and it’s clear that he doing everything in his power to fight through it. Every tackle or point-of-attack play that he is involved with, you can see it on tape that he is just playing with one arm. It is amazing that he is still able to function as well as he has given the situation. His sack on Ryan Fitzpatrick on a third down was outstanding effort on his part -- not only to get up the field, but retrace his steps to track him down. It says a lot about the type of player he is."

This other one I have serious doubts about, but it surprised me and got me thinking:

"You also got a nice effort at the point of attack by Mincey, who was lined up at the nose tackle during that series. The plan going forward here might be to keep Mincey at the one-tech and see if that’s an option for him next season."

Personally, I like a monster 330-lb monster one-tech, but Rod just does not see things my way nor do the Cowboys believe in investing a lot in the position, but I think we all agree that Hayden needs to be replaced. So, how about Mincey (he is currently listed at 280) bulking up 10 or 20 pounds and taking Hayden's place? He would likely be much more active than Hayden, but I am not sure. Thoughts?

Maybe he can hang out with Gregory at the malt shop downing shakes every day.

Hate the idea of Mincy at the 1-tech. Heard somebody even suggest playing Hardy at the 1 as well. Just about made me throw up in my mouth. Our front line is undersized now, can't go even smaller !
Stop cutting corners, do it right and draft an elite 1-tech. Doesn't have to be first round, but this stupid fallacy of not using assetts at that position has not worked now for how many years ?

Sign Ian Williams in the offseason, draft another 1 Tech.

Done.

I like that idea, but do you think the Cowboys will invest the money and the draft pick? Rod and the Cowboys seem to way undervalue the one-tech.

I like the Ian Williams idea, BJ Raji is a free agent this year also.

Also Terrell McClain has another year on his contract and could surprise. Also a name we haven't mentioned in a while, Chris Waley has been carried on the IR for two years and will be in camp next year.

Whaley is not on I.R.

He was cut.

Would be a pure gap shooter at DT. We need a guy who can hold up at the point of attack. Unfortunately that player is only going to play 30% of the snaps because Marinelli likes to put a 3 Tech or DE there on passing downs. Odds are very slim we invest much in the 1 Tech position in the offseason. Ian Williams or a 3rd round pick would probably be the max, and even that may be a stretch

Did Tyrone Crawford start the year injured? Cause he was invisible at the beginning of the year too. The amount of excuse making for this guy from Broaddus is amazing.

He's better than the stats indicate, but he's not nearly disruptive enough to be the 3tech on a great Marinelli defense.

On the bright side, Lawrence was winning just about every snap vs the Jets. He and Hardy are really crashing in the edges. Unfortunately we've got nothing coming up from the inside at DT to take advantage of it and we can't effectively send a LB to save our life.

Oh I doubt Marinelli would do this. It wouldnt' surprise me if Hayden was back again starting next year with Rod. Hayden is the only guy that can look awful during a game and then the coaches tell you how awesome he graded out. Its bizarre.

But if I were GM, I'd sign Williams and the maybe in the mid to late rounds take another high ceiling DT. Then you also have McClain, who yes is injury prone, and I would suspect with those three you could come up with a competent 1 tech rotation.
