DT's for next year

Phil Taylor says hello.........

Can't figure out what is wrong with him. He has been on several visits and workouts through the season but is still unsigned. Maybe his knee is just shot.

Don't like the idea with Mincey. Also, if I recall correctly, Mincey isn't even under contract for next year. He's an unrestricted free agent at seasons end.

Like the Ian Williams idea. As an Irish fan...enjoyed watching him play, and hated to see him go to SF. Don't think he leaves the 49'ers though. He's a younger player entering his prime, and is a team captain. He's a pivotal piece for them upfront, and they'll have something like $40 mil. in cap space.

I like the Ian Williams idea, BJ Raji is a free agent this year also.

Also Terrell McClain has another year on his contract and could surprise. Also a name we haven't mentioned in a while, Chris Waley has been carried on the IR for two years and will be in camp next year.

I forgot about McClain. He did look good in limited action. I also forgot Chris Waley, but I see him more a three-tech.

we need a big 320 beast. Mince , j crawford and hardy are all DE!!!! i want a fat athletic beast!!!!!

I agree! I think Crawford and the rest of the DL, not to mention the LB's will be helped out by a beast in the middle. I just wonder if Rod as the DC will ever move that way.

Did Tyrone Crawford start the year injured? Cause he was invisible at the beginning of the year too. The amount of excuse making for this guy from Broaddus is amazing.

He's better than the stats indicate, but he's not nearly disruptive enough to be the 3tech on a great Marinelli defense.

On the bright side, Lawrence was winning just about every snap vs the Jets. He and Hardy are really crashing in the edges. Unfortunately we've got nothing coming up from the inside at DT to take advantage of it and we can't effectively send a LB to save our life.

Crawford has been playing with a torn rotator cuff I believe. I don't know when that happened, but that is one painful injury to play through.

Yep. I can not imagine playing football at a high level with that injury. I think the injury came pretty early. I also think early in the year he was the only consistent threat on the DL and received a ton of double teams. Hardy and Gregory were out and DLaw was still learning to play the LDE.
Next year with Hardy (maybe) and Gregory back and rounding into form and DLaw starting to dominate, a healthy Crawford should be dominant, especially if we get a legit one-tech.

Agreed, but we took a 2 year flier on Amobi Okoye and his mystery disease. I would think Taylor can get a 2-game audition.

Tyrone Crawford is just bad at tackling. He was last year as well. He'll get pressure on the QB and is really good at it, but doesn't have the stats because he can't tackle.

Hopefully Terrell McClain comes back healthy next year and starts where he left off. If that's the case, I don't see a need for a 1-tech. I'd be happy with a backup and have a 5-man rotation of Crawford, McClain, Irving, new 1-tech and Hayden. If fact, we may not need Hayden if Hardy returns and is playing DT on passing downs.

Could be.....or might be weight related. I'd still take a look though. The guy was unmovable when healthy. Exactly what this D needs. I can't take watching Hayden get driven back into McClain's and Lee's lap any longer.

Whaley is not on I.R.

He was cut.

Whaley is listed as on IR on the team website. he has been on it almost the entire season.

He was waived / injured, was not claimed. So a player reverts to IR unless an injury settlement is made.

Terrell McClaim was playing decent, before his injury. Can't seem to stay healthy. Still need to bring in competition. But agree, can't count him out.
I would like to see Whaley get a chance and be productive. But I think he needs to add some weight too.

Sensible reply....... Many a DT in college, especially SEC & Big 12 coming out this year for bargains...... That can PLAY

Sam Hill from the Titans not Vols.

He is a FA and classic 1T he isn't going to sack the QB often but he will collapse the QB in his face and make him scramble. He's a load that requires double teams. He gave Fred issues last year and Fred is a boss.

I also think that because of his modest sack totals and other huge names out there that he will be moderately priced.
