Duke Johnson Requests Trade

I know we need a backup RB/pass catching RB, but I honestly can’t get too excited even if we get a good one.

I just think Zeke’s backup/change of pace guy is so far down the list of priorities.

I’d be so much more excited about a trade for Gerald McCoy or to pick him up if he gets cut.

That said, Duke would be great.

I'm sure I'd like to welcome Gerald McCoy into the Dallas fold as well, although the cost might be a bit tough for Stephen to digest.

yup and if Zeke should be a knucklehead and get in trouble, this would be a nice player to install into the lineup. OR if Zeke holds out later..or even wants too much money and goes to another team, this guy can carry the load with no issue.

I'm not worried about the off the field issues for Zeke. What I am worried about is 2 things. 1. the usually short shelf life of a RB, and 2. How big of a contract he wants. I think he should get paid by us if we can. However, if his costs are exorbitant and can't be funded by us, then Henderson also gives us the freedom to be able to trade Zeke. I'd really rather we didn't, but, let's face it, Zeke's probably going to want a lot of money. He deserves it honestly, but we shall see what Jerry does. Henderson, at least, gives us a plan B as well as someone who can step in for Zeke. Also, if God-forbid Zeke gets hurt, Henderson buys us time to let Zeke recover.

Look, we're about to sign Zeke to a huge 2nd contract. He led this team in catches last season. A back with Duke receiving ability can take pressure and wear and tear off Zeke.

That's true, but it would take more bench time for Zeke, and many would complain about that too.

I don't think the Cowboys are interested.

You will get the Tweet from Fisher after the trade just like he did with Ogbah today.

Reports said they were earlier........what's changed?
I think the fact that the Browns are not into doing what the Dolphins did in eating cap to move guys might have something to do with it.

Johnson is about $5M I believe. That alone is enough to turn us off.

I think I can make the same argument for Darrell Henderson. I agree that we need to take weight off of Zeke. For a run heavy team like we are, we shouldn't just rely on one back. If something goes wrong with Zeke at the current moment, we're toast. However, I think that Henderson provides more options than Duke Johnson, and we can have him around the same time that you're talking about getting Duke.

Additionally, Darrell Henderson has performed exceptionally well as a starter at Memphis. I said previously, but I think he has starter ability in the NFL. I think Duke was good in Cleveland, but I think Darrell will be even better.

As we can see here, both Duke and Darrell are quite similar. Darrell's combine measurements have him 2 pounds lighter than Duke, and 1 inch shorter than Duke. However, side by side, they both match up strikingly similarly. In the case of CBS, Darrell is labeled as a "home run sleeper" (https://www.___GET_REAL_URL___/s/ww...r-running-back-prospect-you-need-to-know/amp/). If you watch YouTube videos on him, it's not hard to see why. He's not a big name in the draft, and that may have something to do with him being at Memphis. That's where we will have the advantage in taking him. Oh, and he'll cost much less than Duke.

See what you're saying but one word.......college. We have no idea how his college talent will translate to the NFL vs knowing what you're getting with Duke.

That's fair about the difference. However, the links in my post below that shows that their combine results are also strikingly similar. I understand that Duke wins on the pro-vs-college debate. I also conceded that part of the reason that Darrell Henderson isn't as well known is because he went to Memphis. In fairness, that's not the same as the talent that Duke would have played in college. However, what Darrell Henderson has shown at college tells me that he looks more than capable of such a role as what we want from Duke. Plus, the contract cost (which I think we know by now our FO values) gives that edge to Darrell. So, here's how I lay it out.

Experience: advantage Duke
Contract: advantage Darrell
Combine results: I give Darrell the advantage with the number comparisons shown in the links. The only areas Duke beats him at is the high jump and the shuttle. Darrell didn't perform the shuttle at the combine. However, overall, advantage Darrell.
Size: advantage Duke

Please feel free to add in more as you see fit. I think it's remarkable how similar they appear to be. My thinking is that, while Duke's got the experience advantage, I think Darrell has the advantage that Jerry likes. I think Darrell also will have the advantage of flying under the radar because of how little is known about him. I think this will be an interesting debate for us.

if Im the RB coach on draft day, I would be pounding the table for Darrell Henderson. I actually think the kid will be a star and can start day 1 if called upon. Forget his height..look at his weight and build. He's all muscle and gets it done.
And zero fumbles in his college career.

That's also important too. Another advantage to Darrell in that debate. Also, according to the link I posted on him, he averaged an astounding 8.9 yards per carry over the last 344 attempts. That's remarkable! Talk about an excellent way to give Zeke a break once in a while.
