Duke Robinson vs. Herman Johnson

Why is Duke considered by pretty much everyone a better player? I was just looking around, and NFLDS has Duke #1 and Herman #2 at OG. I'm pretty sure many other sites have Johnson as lower, sometimes much lower. Why is that? I watched the entire draftparty clips of many plays from each, and I was more impressed with Johnson. Obviously he isn't very quick, but what I liked was good effort on practically every play. Even when he had to get out to a LB, where he may look like he's laboring a bit, he played to the whistle. Looked to me like Robinson didn't always do that. And Herman was at least as good at moving people out of the way on simple power running plays.

Just wondering what the story is.

I think a lot of people are worried about Herman's weight, but he has busted his butt to lose a lot of weight and get in better shape. I like both and wouldn't mind if we landed one of them.

Johnson looked god awful in Senior bowl drills. Slow of foot and got shoved around. At his size he should be imovable. You can have him.

Its his weight most have a problem with. I agree with you, when I see film of both players Herm looks the best. If he had his weight down like he is currently, I think he would be ahead of Duke. I'm hoping we get a combination of Jamon Meridith and Herm Johnson with our first 3 picks. What could be more Romo friendlier than that.

Okay, that's fine. Then maybe Robinson is overrated as well? What makes him so much better? When I saw him, he didn't move any better and didn't play any harder.

I'm starting to get leery of Duke Robinson, he's Flozell Adams when it comes to false-starts, also has bouts of 'roid rage, and might have to be constantly motivated once he receives his rookie paycheck

He and Loadholt looked bad in that game but I think Duke will be a good pro. Herm Johnson in my opinion will be the better pro. He can also slide to tackle in a pinch but I think he will do his damage at guard.

Unless Beatty falls to #51, I'd wait until the 4th round to draft an OL. You're better off drafting and developing OL in the middle rounds, that could play multiple positions like T.J. Lang, Cornelius Lewis or Dallas Reynolds etc. Some other prospects I like...

Joel Bell
Andrew Gardner
Andy Kemp
Colin Brown
Ryan Durand
Seth Olsen

that has not worked out well for us recently. If the scouts and coaches think that Duke is worth a 51st pick then i am ok with that.

thats the main thing, hudson houck needs to do the best job he has ever done in finding out which one will be the best pro

because we havent had an impact dominant offensive linemen since larry allen, we need one bad

Alternatively TJ Lang with our 2nd 4th rounder.

Does anyone have a link showing actual interest from the Cowboys? Just curious, cuz of all the mocks with him going at #51. These are the OL, that have been linked to the Cowboys from what I gather...

Max Unger, C/OG, Oregon
Phil Loadholt, OT, Oklahoma
Andy Levtire, OG, Oregon St
T.J. Lang, OT/OG/C, Eastern Michigan
Cornelius Lewis, OT/OG, Tennessee St
Jaimie Thomas, OG, Maryland
Roger Allen, OG, Missouri Western St
Jason Watkins, OT, Florida St.

Link anyone?

I like Herman Johnson, but I wonder if Dallas sees his best fit on the right side. The left side needs help. Yet, I've read nothing that says he's just a right side player. At one time, this guy was considered a potential first round pick.

It looked like Hudson Houck was at LSU's pro day. I saw a picture.

If you were going to eventually move Leonard Davis to LT, then, you could play him on the right side.

I do know that when I watched LSU, I wanted "that guy".

At least, he showed up to the Senior Bowl. Robinson didn't go.

Having said all this, my gut tells me the Cowboys will not draft him.

I hope your gut is right. I hope the talk I heard about Loadholt is wrong too.

Yeah, he played right beside Ciron Black at LG. I just think the best place for him, in the NFL, may at RG. He's huge, like Leonard Davis. You can use him on the strong side and run it behind him. Plus, the speed rusher (ex. Trent Cole) is usually on the weak side, and he wouldn't have to deal with players like Cole getting under him on twists, loops, or stunts.

However, he's good in pass protection, and you might be able to play him at LG and move him to RG when he gets a little older. He's not going to be very good on long pulling plays. I've seen him lead the sweep to his outside very well, and he looks good on shorter pulls. He could struggle to get linebackers on the run, too, but you could say that about other big linemen.

I think Loadholt is a right tackle. I was holding out hope, but he's a RT.

If the Bears take Ebon Britton, look for the Vikings to take Loadholt in round 1. They need a RT, and they had the coach, gm, ect... at Oklahoma's pro day.
