They must have data showing trying for the first is always more valuable than forcing the other team to burn the final TO because they always opt for it.
They have tried it twice this year, and it failed both times thus opening a window for both the Giants and the Jags to have a last shot at a FG with a timeout rather than no timeout with even less time on the clock. The poor play call was a double whammy. It saved the Jags a crucial timeout AND it preserved more time on the clock for their last drive.
The defense bailed us out in the Giants game, but not against the Jags.
Had we simply taken a victory formation kneel down rather than the long pass play our winning percentage would have been well over 90. The only hope would be a fluke like a hail mary, or a huge penalty on the defense for the Jags to win. It can happen, but very rarely does.
That call lost us the game more than any other factor.
Nobody is off the hook. If Moore called it then he needs to evaluate his own film and learn or hit the road. McCarthy should have been aware enough to over rule him unless he made the call which is even more inexcusable since he has more experience than Moore by far. And if Dak audibled into that play then he needs to be checked by the coaches for that. Likewise, Dak should have audibled to a run play to prevent an obvious coaching error.
