CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Rex Ryan wants Tony Dungy to know he's more than just a foul-mouthed coach.
Dungy criticized the New York Jets coach earlier this week for his Rex-pletive-filled appearance on the premiere episode of HBO's "Hard Knocks."
"The thing is, I've been a big admirer of Tony Dungy, and I'm sure a lot of people are," Ryan said Wednesday. "I felt that he unfairly judged me, and that was disappointing to me

Dungy is an *******. He is the last person that should judge any coach or player. Go represent your "rehabilitated" QB Mike Vick.

I dont like much of anything about rex ryan...or any of the ryans for that matter.

But Tony Dungy is so off base here. A grown man on a football field is doing something wrong when he swears?

Whatever. If that were me I would have held a press conference And used every word I could think of in a response to that judgemental overrated morality decider Tony Dungy.

I dont like Tony Dungy and never have. Stuff like this makes me lose all respect for him. Stay out of rex ryans business. If he has such a problem with it get back in the league and coach a team against him.

God this story makes me irritated. A grown man swearing on a private football field is an issue? Good Grief. I am dissapointed big mouth ryan didnt let him have it, I sure would have.

Rex Ryan doesn't beat his wife, deal drugs, shoot people or electrocute dogs. It's words, for crapsake. I actually like Ryan.

Oh no, cuss words. The only time I have a problem with anything somebody says is if they're using a racial slur or something to be derogatory to another person. When it comes to just general cursing, get the hell over it. I mean, these holier than thou people that think somehow a word is evil are insane.

When those people say 'shoot' instead of ****, or whatever else, they mean the exact same thing, they're just getting the message across with a word their preacher or mother told them was okay to say. It's ridiculously absurd. :laugh2:

You don't know that. For all we know, he does all those things and cusses up a storm the whole time.

I like Dungy and don't like the Ryans. I think Tony is off base because this is a non-issue. People cuss. People involved in the NFL cuss. It is not only Ryan. It is fine if Dungy did not cuss. That doesn't mean he has to try and control how others coach.

I think the issue that Tony has with it is that it wasn't on a private football field but was on national TV. The only reason he raised this issue is because it was broadcast on Hard Knocks. You don't see Tony going from practice field to practice field being the cuss ****. I think he's concerned with the example it sets.

There is a time and place for everything but since this was a TV broadcast I think that coach Ryan could have used a little better discretion. Barry Switzer used to get criticized big time when he let out a few "hells" and "damns" at his press conferences. Many people felt that it was an unbecoming representation of the Dallas Cowboys.

Whether you agree or disagree with him, I think that Tony Dungy's comments are a reflection of the high regard that he has for the league and the responsibility that the league has being on such a high public platform.

HBO is not National Television. It's a premium subscription channel, so no, Rex Ryan was not cussing on national television. People who don't like cuss words should not subscribe to HBO.

Just because Dungy and some others have a puritanical view of what is okay to say doesn't mean Ryan has a responsibility to follow the same beliefs. I'd rather have a coach who isn't a hypocrite and pretends to be a different guy at his press conferences than he really is. Make no mistake, almost every coach is cussing his head off during practice.

Dungy hasn't seen much HBO if he thinks Rex is bad. I'd like to see him watch an episode of Deadwood. :lmao:

Keith Brooking doesn't care much for Ryan's style. Check it out staring at 7:35.

I like Dungy but his style is different than Rex. Rex is going to be who he is and as long as he has the respect from his team and they play hard for him it really is no ones business.

I agree with you.

Dungy speaking about this was awfully presumptuous and I don't think he should've said anything, but I agree with him in principal, if not in spirit.

It's just a poor way to represent your organization. If I'm Woody Johnson, I tell him to tone it down.

I'm former military and current law enforcement. I can swear as much as Ryan...but I'm mindful of my audience. If I'm with the kids, or with someone I don't know, I keep the swears out of my conversation. It's really not that difficult.

I know (and many here have pointed out) that they're just words, but the fact remains that they're offensive to many people. And while it's not offensive (in its context) to me, Ryan sounds like an idiot when he can't form a sentence without 2 or 3 swears thrown in for good measure, so its irritating, rather than offensive.
