Clarence Hill is reporting that the Cowboys agreement with Durant is illegal. Not sure what the penalty would be, but he said it's illegal to negotiate am agreement without cap space in hand.

Hope Jerry hasn't incurred another penalty.

If it is not against the rules, or if there is not one, then they will make it one. Mara will make it pass, so he can steal another 10 million in cap room from us.

Just like they will not rule on Brent since his trial date is set, until as late as they can, so JJ can't use that cap room.

The Cowboys haven't violated any rules. Any agreement made between a player and team is nonbinding. If they had signed him to a contract, but said we're not going to turn it in to the league office until we free up cap space, that would be illegal.

Nothing Dallas has done prevents Durant from going out and signing with a team.

I'm sure there is an "undisclosed agreement" bar that prevents "under the table" payments in an attempt to circumvent the cap. That's simply not this situation.

That's right. No one has signed anything and no one has reported that anyone has signed anything.
They have come to tentaive terms, but no agreement can be signed until cap room is cleared.
I'm not sure why Clarence Hill felt compelled to stir something up that was false.

It is simply a verbal agreement. Not binding in any way and not illegal.

If Durant wants to sign elsewhere, he can. It is merely him saying he wants to play in Dallas at the numbers they talked about.

There should be some room in the next day or so to sign him.

The 49ers were able to reach an agreement with the Chiefs to trade Alex Smith before the period where trades were allowed. This is not any different than that.

He is claiming that some one from the league told him and sent him an article with the rule in it.

I am not saying Calrence Hill is wrong, however, I would trust Stephen Jones would not negotiate a deal with a client and let it be leaked out to the media IF it would hurt the Dallas Cowboys.

Especially, not for a LB who might just help with our depth charts.:(

The currently have about 100,000 in cap space so not sure where the illegal part comes in.

Giants were rumored to be interested in this guy though.. enough said.

I'm not saying Clarence Hill is wrong ... but he's not exactly the brightest bulb.

Then he should post the rule that's being violated.

Is it paranoia, or does the Dallas media seem to have some sort of ongoing "under the table" bounty system that feeds their incessant desire to play gotcha for anything that could potentially undermine the Cowboys?
