I agree with the OP for the most part, though I do think that the Titans will fall back to a .500 team. Too many weaknesses on both sides of the ball. Fisher did it with smoke and mirrors last year - to a degree - and that usually only lasts for so long. The Colts win that division going away.

I think Dallas is in a dogfight against the Giants and Eagles. I think all 3 teams are fairly evenly matched. The key in my mind is who stays the healthiest. And whether or not Dallas can play well at the end of the year. Even if Dallas opens 9-3 or even 10-2, one misstep in early December and they'll be like a golfer with the yips. Something or someone - and it needs to and will probably have to be Romo - has to get them over that hump.

The Commanders on the other hand, are an older team with no QB and very few playmakers. 8-8 and staying in contention for most of the year would be quite an accomplishment for Zorn, but it'll probably get him fired.

1. Patriots-Though not as good as everyone else thinks. Brady will be rusty.
2.* Dolphins-Let's face it, this is just a "team".
3. Bills- Owens first year is usually a good one. Edwards is servicable.
4. Jets- Will miss Mangini.

AFC North
1. Steelers- I will root against them every step of the way.
2. Ravens- Only on defense. This team will be .500 in second.
3. Browns- Mangini will take effect. Brady Quinn will be solid. Also .500
4. Bengals- Palmer will never be the same. Lewis finally loses his job.

AFC South
1. Titans- As long as Collins stays healthy. Vince Young equals defeat.
2.* Colts- They can still resign Harrison and I would advise it.
3. Texans- Finally some success. Will lean on Slaten.
4. Jaguars- Garrard is a bus driver but the bus is broken down.

AFC West
1. Chargers- By default. Though Tomlinson will bounce back.
2. Broncos- But at .500. Simms will take over, and be a little better.
3. Raiders- Russell should have stayed in Oakland working out instead of...nevermind.
4. Chiefs- Cassel will prove to be a product on the team around him.

NFC East
1. Cowboys- Even I think we are underrated. What a rushing attack.
2.*Giants- Good D, good rushing offense, come up short at receiver.
3. Eagles- McNabb gets hurt. Defense is not he same. Don't get the love.
4. Commanders- Campbell is terrible and it will continue to show.

NFC North
1. Vikings- Favre will play and be successful.
2. Bears- Cutler is the real deal. The anti-Cassel. Forte is a warrior.
3. Packers- Aaron Rodgers is average and it will show. Defense is good.
4. Lions- They will win one or two.

NFC West
1. Cardinals- Fitzgerald is just great. Even if Warner goes down, they win this.
2. Seahawks- But at around .500. It's time to find a new QB. Calling Derek Anderson.
3. Rams- Same story. Bulger is just not getting it done.
4. 49ers- Same story. This team has no QB to speak of.

NFC South
1. Saints- A good team. Finally get better on D.
2.*Falcons- Just great coaching. Great coaching always keeps you in it.
3. Panthers- Why would you resign Delhomme to a new deal? They need a new QB.
4. Buccaneers- Terrible. Will be lucky to win 3 games. Why sit on the money?

SuperBowl:

Vikings vs Chargers

Vkings-If Favre finally retires, it is certainly worth it.

Cowboys-Will lose to Vikings in Championship with no Roy Williams (which means no WR)- All next offseason, everyone will say Romo cannot win the big game.

AFC East

1. Patriots. Brady is back and since he's not a runner the knee thing won't hamper him as much as it would, say Mcnabb. They take the East back. Also don't forget that they still have Moss and Welker to throw to and, oh yeah, they added that ageless wonder with speed Joey Galloway. They'll be a force.
2. Bills. If Owens and Evans stay healthy they make the playoffs.
3. Dolphins. They'll comeback to the pack this year. No sneaking up on anyone and no easy schedule to bail them out.
4. Jets. The 2008 decline continues.

AFC North

1. Steelers. Legal issues aside, cause they'll cause some issues, they're still the kings of the division.
2. Ravens. The only thing that hurts them, possibly, is if Flacco struggles at all. If he continues to improve they'll be a force.
3. Bengals. They just plain stink.
4. Browns. They still can't decide who their QB is and they're in a situation where they're making it all worse by keeping the two they have. They have to get rid of one so the other can take it over. My guess is Quinn eventually wins the starting job.

AFC South

1. Colts. They'll struggle early but Peyton is Peyton. They'll still win the division.
2. Texans. Yeah BABY! I think this is their year to FINALLY contend for the division and win a WC berth. The QB issues for the Titans will help this.
3. Titans. Controversy will be brewing STRONG by the time game one roles around. Season long back and forth this team takes a dive.
4. Jaguars. This actually should be an up year for them, going by recent trends, but I think this year is the year Del Rio finally gets the axe. Sad really.

AFC West

1. Chargers. Class of the Division. Without a doubt. The people picking them 3rd and 4th? Did they trade Phillip Rivers and I didn't hear about it? As long as they have Rivers they're in it.
2. Chiefs. They'll improve cause of improved QB play and the product of a very weak division with the Raiders and Broncos in it.
3. Raiders. They get out of the basement but only because McDaniels has proven he's an idiot.
4. Broncos. Having Orton instead of Cutler made them 6-10 at best and now they're also going to have an uhappy WR. I wouldn't be shocked, at all, with a defense as bad as theirs and McDaniels bonehead moves if this is the team with the #1 pick in the draft next offseason. 2-14 here you come!

NFC East

1. Cowboys. Romo gets the critics off his back, an improved running game, and spreading the ball around erases the fears that Owens was the only guy on this offense who could do anything.
2. Eagles. Pains me to say this. I hate them. But they're clearly the biggest challenge to Dallas this season. They had a great offseason and could win this division.
3. Commanders. Solid defensive play will keep them afloat enough to win the dog fight with the Gmen for the bottom of the division.
4. Giants. Great defense, still, but not great enough to hold opponents to 10 or less points per game, which is what they'll have to do to have a shot. They need the Ravens defense that won the Superbowl, they don't have that. Eli will struggle mightly without Plax and the running game will take a HUGE blow not having Ward to spell Glass Joe, I mean Brandon Jacobs.

NFC North

1. Vikings. They win the division either way but I think they become the team to beat w/Favre.
2. Bears. If Cutler can get one of his WR's to show up and give him a legit threat this team will be tough.
3. Packers. I was wrong about Rodgers I think. The kid can actually play. They'll contend for the WC with the Bears.
4. Lions. They won't go 0-16 but they haven't done enough to do much more than 3-13.

NFC South

1. Panthers. I think Jake rebounds, they've still got Smith, an outstanding 1-2 punch in the running game, and their defense is still pretty salty.
2. Saints. Should be a WC contender. Drew Brees keeps them in every contest.
3. Falcons. They comeback to Earth a bit. Teams will start focusing on shutting the running game down and forcing Ryan to beat them and he'll struggle a bit with that this year.
4. Buccaneers. They will be in the fight with Denver for the #1 pick.

NFC West

1. 49ers. If they can just get average play at the QB position they're going to be pretty decent. Solid defense and a good running game and should have improved WR play.
2. Seahawks. A last run at things for Matt. They'll fall short.
3. Cards. They comeback to where they actually are. A great offense, with no defense, that won't find the ball bouncing their way nearly as often this year.
4. Rams. The only other team in the picture for the #1 pick with the Bucs and Broncos.

Pick to Win it all -

Heart says Cowboys, as it tends to do. So that's my rose colored glasses pick...

Logical Pick....Patriots or Vikings (if they've got Favre). Most likely the Patriots to close out the decade. Brady returns, shows he's brilliant even off a knee injury, and joins Joe Montana as the only 3 time Superbowl MVP and joins only Bradshaw and Montana as 4 Time Superbowl Winning QBs.

I'll just do the East.

1. Philly. I think adding Maclin, and Desean Jackson having a year of experience under their belt is going to make that offense scary. Improved their Oline, and Westbrook is Westbrook. I don't think the Defense will be as good with JJ stepping down though. I look for thier offense to be one of the top rated offenses in the league.

2. Dallas. Gonna pound the ball, and put a premium on turnovers. It won't be as sexy an offense, but it will be effective.

3. Giants. Losing Spags will hurt the Defense. Losing plaxico will REALLY hurt the offense. The defense will keep them in most games, but in the end, I don't see this team winning more than 9 games. Brandon Jacobs will get dinged up again, and then the offense will be all on Eli. Good luck with that.

4. Washington. Pulling the up rear (like they usually do). Campbell is a pretty good backup quarterback, but nothing more. Portis will do the majority of the work, but he's no spring chicken, and he has alot of miles on those legs. Put up 17 points against them, and you will win. The defense is what I find most interesting though. The addition of Haynesworth is key. I believe that nobody will want to run the ball at them, so they will pass more. And I think this will expose thier defense. In the past, teams knew they needed to score 17-21 points, and they'd win. So they'd run the ball, control the clock, and play pretty conservative. This year, I think teams will try to throw on them more and beat thier secondary instead of running at fat Albert. Deangelo Hall is foul, but he did play pretty well for them late last year. The two previous teams had no trouble at all letting him walk (or just kicking him off the team), so that ought to tell you something right there. Carlos Rodgers is trash.

It's too early to be making predictions for the upcoming season. I will wait until just prior to the start of the regular season before making my picks.

I will say that the Cowboys are going all the way this year though.

Cowboys over Stealers in the SB!

Agree with it being too early, but I think a lot of people are giving the Patriots a little too much credit. I think they're also discredting Brady's knee, thinking that knee = running QB, and since Brady is a pocket passer it won't affect him.

He'll still have to plant that front foot to throw, especially the deep ball. Only 1 year removed from a devastating knee injury; you mean to tell me the first time he gets twisted funny in a sack it won't hurt, or at least get inside his head?

I think they'll have a good team this year, but I still think they have huge question marks at linebacker, running back, and even their defensive line. I would look for the Jets to be a sleeper this year, using Sanchez in that protected, bus-driver role behind a strong running attack and what looks to be a much improved defense under Rex Ryan.

Of course, training camp hasn't even started. :p:

NFC East

1. Giants - As long as they can run, they can win. A lot.
2. Eagles - Not as great as their roster looks, but should still get second place and the top wildcard.
3. Cowboys - Looks like there are all the trappings for another late season collapse. Could still do what they should have done last year and backdoor in. If they do, they could finally win a playoff game and save Phillips' job.
4. Commanders - More five hundred ball at best. Snyder will fire Zorn at the end of the season.

Other than your take on the NFC East I pretty much agreed with all of it.

The Cowboys WILL win the division this year. I see a very different mindset so far this offseason, both with who we got rid of and who we drafted/signed. There just seems to be a different attitude now and I LIKE IT!

Of course we won't know until January.

Here's mine (subject to change before season starts):

AFC EAST

New England- Brady won't be as sharp in his comeback, but this team is too good to not win the division.
Buffalo - misses the playoffs because Dick Jauron is their coach and Edwards can't stay healthy.
NY Jets - Rex's team looks like his dad's team, scary tough defense, pitiful offense.
Miami - Teams will contain the wildcat, figure out Pasqualoni's defense, and force the Fins to beat them with Pennington's arm. Not good.

AFC SOUTH

Indy - ho hum. As long as Peyton still has it, they will go to the playoffs.
Jacksonville (wildcard) - There should only be two or maybe three 'Fab Four' teams this year since there are only 11 teams coming off a losing season. Garrard and Del Rio make the Jags a favorite for the 'Fab Four.'
Houston - Another 8-8 or 9-7 season as they can't stay healthy enough and their defense sans 3 players sucks and their special teams is not good.
Tennessee - They'll probably go 8-8 as well. Losing Haynesworth will hurt big time. Kerry Collins is a lousy QB and if they get an injury to one of their DB's and/or Chris Johnson that's going to be a huge problem.

AFC NORTH

Pittsburgh - Another division for these guys, but they are not nearly as good as they were in '08. People forget that if Romo plays average Dallas beats this team by 20 at Pittsburgh. They can be had.
Baltimore (wildcard) - Losing D-Coordinator and some key players and Flacco could go in a sophomore slump.
CincinnatI - I think this team could surprise people. I was debating putting them in the playoffs.
Cleveland - They'll be better, but still subpar.

AFC WEST

San Diego - They'll be better now Rivera is the full time D-Coordinator and they don't have to worry about Merriman as much this year.
Kansas City - Great situation for Haley at this point.
Denver - When you have a team that needs a massive overhaul on defense and was saved by its offense and then you get rid of your Pro Bowl QB...there's going to be problems.
Oakland - Yikes.

NFC EAST

NY Giants - Most stable team of the group with a strong running game.
Dallas - I don't think any team in the NFL has the team makeup which I believe could lead to great things (think Super Bowl), but this team will go as far as the health, quality of Romo's play and quality of Garrett's coaching take them.
Philadelphia - Now they are relying on Reid who IMO wouldn't have a job right now if he had say Zimmer as the DC instead of Jim Johnson.
Washington - Went 2-6 down the stretch last year, even losing to the Bengals. Team started out well with Portis going nuts on defenses, but he and Zorn seem to really not like each other. Greg Blache has never really had defenses that sack the QB a lot, Haynesworth is great, but he won't change that much. Plus, Dallas and Philly have some of the biggest centers and guards in the league.

NFC SOUTH

New Orleans - I figure with their offense and Brees that sooner or later they have to make the playoffs.
Carolina (wildcard) - tough running game, pretty good defense, throw it to Steve Smith.
Atlanta - they go 8-8 as Michael Turner gets hurt and Matt Ryan goes thru some growing pains. Teams started to figure him out a bit at the end of last season.
Tampa Bay - No more Monte Kiffin, don't know who the QB will be.

NFC NORTH

Minnesota - I don't agree that 'they have it all except for a QB.' Their ST was horrendous last year and their pass defense is still suspect.
Chicago (wildcard) - Went 9-7 last season with Kyle Orton and a horrendous defense. Now with Cutler and Lovie taking over the defense, I see better things. Only thing that prevents me from giving them the division is I think it may take Cutler about a year to adjust.
Green Bay - Switching over to a 3-4 will take time to adjust and the running game needs to come back.
Detroit - 2-14

NFC West

Seattle - My other 'Fab Four' team. Reminds me a bit of the Falcons in '04 when Mora, Jr. took them over.
San Francisco - Singletary will motivate the troops, but it won't be enough and in a few years they'll grow sick of it.
Arizona - The curse of the Super Bowl loser continues
St. Louis - Lack of talent on defense and a shoddy O-Line.

No way the Chargers finish last in that division - they are one of the most talented teams in the entire league and they get Merriman back this season. Plus a healthy Cromartie...they would be my pick in the AFC. I hate the Patriots....

Yeah. The Chargers are one of the top 4-5 teams in the league...imo.

I guess he was being creative when picking them last in their crappy division. SD has been right on the cusp of a Super Bowl, but keep getting bitten by huge injuries.

AFC East

1. Patriots. Brady, Joey, Taylor, etc., etc, etc.
**Side Note: Dolphins reminded me of us when Parcells got us to the playoffs with Quincy...all smoke and mirrors!!

AFC North

1. Steelers. They know how to win...not flashy, just solid.
**Side Note: Is anyone else sick of the Ravens????

AFC South

1. Colts. Peyton is too good.
**Side Note: The Texans actually might be the most talented team in the league but for some reason, uhhhh, I don't get it...guess it's the humidity!

AFC West

1. Chargers. People have been saying they are the most talented team in the NFL for how long???? I don't get it, but the division sucks!
**Side Note: If Jamarcus ever gets it...could be scary, problem is I don't think they have a WR that can run 80yd flys and he throw it from one knee!

NFC East

1. Cowboys. Not homerism...were just loaded on O. People forget to realize that we would/could have had a great season last year without the injuries. Think about it..we started a 5th round draft choice without a backup RB against the Steelers, and almost won. Romo again will show all the naysayers that he is a great QB. Heard a little tidbit from Laughenberg last night that Romo in his career in the 4th qtr has thrown 9 tds, and only 1 interception! If were healthy...we win....if not...we don't.

**Side Note-....Resdskins...the defense is freakin loaded! All the talk about Philly and the Gmen, but this D is more solid IMO. Plus I think the WCO hurt Campbell last year. He's always played well against us..plus he's a cool customer.

NFC North

1. Bears. Forte is a stud, and it's amazing what a QB can do for a team!!
**Side Note- Vikes will be good, but Farve will cause distractions....plus he's always sucked in the Metrodome!!!!!

NFC South

1. Panthers. RB's are too good. Delhomme still sucks though.
**Side Note- Roddy White comes back to reality for Falcons!

NFC West

1. 49ers. Don't laugh. I think they can be players. Shaun Hill is actually not that bad. Plus with the addition of Crabtree and Coffey as rookies this team could be fun to watch.
**Side Note: Hassleback is too injury prone with that back, and remember the Cards did finish 9-7 last year!

SB- Cow's vs. Colts........winner TBD.

I'm curious as to what weaknesses you are referring to.

I guess QB could be considered a weakness, but they don't ask to much of him and he manages a game just fine..so that's not a real issue. The WRs are only soso but they upgraded there with Nate Washington and Kenny Britt to go with a healthy Gage.

Otherwise:
They have one of the league's best RB duos...and great depth
They have a tremendous Oline
TEs are very solid (not great but solid) and deep
They have a very stout and deep Dline (but losing AH makes them thinner)
The LB core is solid
They have maybe the best secondary in the league
Special teams are very good too
Coaching is top 4-5 in the league

If not for an outerworldly fluke game in the playoffs vs the Ravens (goal line fumbles, missed ref calls, CJ 2nd qrt injury by illegal play), they may have gone to the Super Bowl (they pounded the Steelers a couple of weeks earlier and would have payed them at home)

Maybe you can explain?

I take it you missed the Commanders before they started to have problems along the OL last year? I know we're Cowboys' fans, but they're got a capable team up there. Laugh now and you might be crying when they wax us at some point later this year.

The wheels were coming off before Samuels got hurt. Here's a look at their points scored leading up to Samuels' injury:

vs. St. Louis - 17 points
vs. Cleveland - 14 points
vs. Detroit -25 points
vs. Pittsburgh - 6 points
vs. Dallas - 10 points
vs. Seattle - 20 points

Outside of Dallas and Pittsburgh, the rest of the defenses were downright lousy.

And they have a pretty old O-Line sans Dockery who was given the boot in only 2 years in Buffalo after signing a huge contract. Dockery may come back and play to his old form with familiarity, but that's a bit of a gamble and I don't think he is nearly as good as Pete Kendall was.

The Skins did well early on as teams had to figure out Zorn a bit. They looked for Moss first and then Cooley and I think that threw off opposing defenses early on. Then they saw that and they contained the running game and their offense struggled badly because Jason Campbell has not really lit up defenses.

Blache has never had defenses that sack the QB a lot which is a key correlation to winning games. Haynesworth will help, but I think they will undoubtedly miss Shawn Springs big time and in the past when they didn't have Springs it played a major factor.

All those factors and so far Zorn has looked completely overwhelmed for the most part and that the Skins rely on the running game with an aging Portis who has pretty much worn down or got injured every year of his career and he apparently doesn't like Zorn at all.

Predictions are tough to take with a grain of salt, but for me personally I try to weigh in the factors and 'play the odds' and then make my predictions accordingly.

The mindset right now isn't a lot different from what we have seen on and off for the last five years. We talk big early, look good early then wilt under the pressure late every single season.

The biggest issues are our divisional games and of course the last portion of our schedule. We are capable of splitting with every team, but I think we need to sweep either the Eagles or Giants to take the division, much like we did in 2007. I just don't think we are assured of doing that. They both match up well defensively with us and I can't get past that.

Until this organization shows me they can win consistently after Thanksgiving, it is hard to predict them winning the best division football without having it under wraps before December hits.

I think too many people are discounting Atlanta. They still have some gaps on defense, but with the addition of Tony Gonzalez the Falcons actually have a TE now.

Thanks, Hostile, interesting picks.
I largely agree.

However . . .

I don't see how a team that humiliated us by scoring 44 on us last december (Philedelphia) can be ranked below us. I just don't see it. I would love for it to happen but I cannot see it.

Also, the Pack will dominate, not the sad sack Vikings. Hos, take it to the bank or las vegas. Bet your home, your ranch and your stable of horses that the Pack will dominate. Do what I say and you can make big money in las vegas.
The pack will make Favre pay for his drama.
