Very talented WR and I like the fact he is 6'03" 217 with decent speed

no no no no no. i will kill somebody if we take bowe in the first...he and robert meachum are not first rounders...they are early second rounders at best i think. these workout warriors come out of nowhere suddenly. look at matt jones...he was a WW and what is he doing? nothing. Dwayne Jarrett will be better than this guy.

NO,, I don't think we need to spend a 1st on a WR. I know the thought process that we have 2 older WR and only young low to undrafted wr behind them. But I dont think you draft a WR in the 1st to sit on the sideline. Especailly if we need a RT/RG depending on what Marc C does. I think we can find a very talented WR with great potential in the 3rd or 4th and groom him this year.

You couldn't me more wrong if you tried. They may appear as though they came out of nowhere to you, but that would only be because you haven't been paying attention. Bowe was almost universally accepted as a 1st rounder before this off-season, so I'm not sure how he could be a "workout warrior."

I'd take Bowe in the 1st in a heartbeat.

That is a little harsh--right?

I think Matt Jones will be a star very soon.

Just think how much more impressive his numbers would have been had he gotten his eyes fixed earlier.

Where we are picking, I have Meachem 1A and Bowe 1B. I also think Bowe compares favorably to Andre Johnson of the Texans (maybe a step slower).

Once Bowe had eye surgery following his jr. year, he semed to catch almost everything. He already had no problem getting open.

On Sirius radio yesterday, one of the beat writers (Mac) said that he thought the Boys might actually cut Owens in June if they find someone they like in the 1st round of the draft. I don't know if this is just a hunch of his, but it sounds possible.

I would pick Bowe before Meacham. having watched both of them quite a few times, Boew seems less likely to disappear in games.

It typically takes a WR a couple of years to adjust, develop and contribute. Matt Jones is no different AND on top of that, he's learning a new position. Kid's gonna be all right.

I have seen some great catches from Jones and he is tough as nails and tall as all.

This wouldn't be smart since WR has always been the last position to show progression as a rookie. Yes...you do have those that come out of the gates blazing like Fitzgerald, but they are few and far between!

Great post theogt. I couldn't agree more. I would be thrilled with Bowe in the 1st. Mike Maycock from NFL.com actually has Bowe as #2 WR ahead of Ginn and Jarrett.

He will not always be a rookie. I agree it normally takes a season before a WR starts to show himself but I would rather get one today and have him see limited playing time and be fully ready to go in the 08 season. To wait until it becomes a must only puts us a year behind.

So if it takes a WR a year or so to develop, why not take one at a time when we don't need him to contribute immediately, but will in the next season?

Exactly...are people forgetting our current starters are both closing in on the middle thirties? It will be a miracle if they both complete the season without missing any time.

Bowe is not "coming out of nowhere", he caught 65 balls and twelve td's last season and has been improving every year since his freshmen season which is always a good sign. To me he looks like T.O II and I would be doing cartwheels if we drafted him in the first round.

I like Robert Meacham of Tennessee better, but Bowe isn't a bad choice at all.

Bowe would be a nice Choice, let him be the 3rd or 4th WR this year and get ready to replace either Glenn or T.O. next year.

I saw every college game Meachem played. He's a stud. He's fast and big, and capable of the spectacular catch. The problem with him is that - like most modern day receivers - he sometimes loses concentration and drops the easy one. He had a monster year....1300 yds and 11 TDs.

Meachem's best attribute is running after the catch. He might be a better fit for a west coast offense, but I'd take him in a heartbeat. Meachem kind of came out of nowhere in '06, but those who watched the Vols knew he was capable of great play. TN had serious QB issues in '05.

I haven't seen every game Bowe played, but I think I like him more than I do Meachem. He's a prototypical #1, big and fast. His #s for '06 aren't as gaudy as Meachem's, but Russell had more viable alternatives in the passing game, whereas Ainge's #2 WR was hampered by injury much of the year and Meachem was TN's only big offensive weapon. It also can't be ignored that Bowe was absolutely dominant at the senior bowl.

I think both guys will be good, but Bowe is the better athlete, so I'd go with him.
