Yeah, but you can tell there are several that want new long term contracts with what may appear to be a better foundation. Does a new defensive coordinator get much say as to the assistants on staff? I would think any of the big names would like to bring in several assistants of their own-but it may be a situation where Dallas just says make it work with what we have.
It may. They are quality assistants, why let them go to a rival?

I’m not sure letting them go is the right decision either. My initial thought is to speed up the hiring of the defensive coordinator and get their thoughts as to whom they would like to work with. How does their defensive scheme compare with Quinn’s and what type of learning curve would it take existing personnel to adapt to a potential change in philosophy/strategy-would it make sense to bring in some assistants that already have experience in the new coordinator’s scheme? If they hire from within-that may be a moot point.

Three straight 12 win seasons. While the playoff losses suck, most of the teams in the NFL would love that type of dysfunction. We need a defense that can stop the run and an offense that can threaten with the run, and we will be close to making a serious run.

Yes, I know we have all said our piece about the dysfunction of the franchise and the Jones’ clan. We are getting an up close illustration with the defensive coordinator search and now all the assistant coaches trying to escape the lame duck situation. Can you blame any of the coaches wanting out of Dallas for what is likely a longer guaranteed contract in Washington?

Dan Quinn is just trying to fast track the process because of familiarity with these coaches. The Cowboys lame duck situation is at the heart of all the upheaval. Lateral moves are typically only done if you really like working with the other head coach more than the one currently supervising you OR the contract future is much more appealing.

These assistant coaches can see the signs/symptoms of potential impending collapse and want the hell out from the looks of things. Not the kind of harmony you want in the coaching staff nor front office-but we knew that already!
Seeking permission doesn't mean that specific coach wants out it just means another team is interested in speaking to them. Also what dysfunction is on display for the defensive coordinator position? I much rather them interview a bunch of coaches rather than just promote someone internally without serious external consideration.

They signed a contract and got paid. If it's not a promotion and you still want them....keep them. Or, they can quit, lose their check and take a week off. The new DC may not want them.....then they can walk.
I guess the whole point is to stop wasting time. If they dont trust MM, then let him and the coaches go. They have families to feed and a career to maintain. Having your HC around on his last year is a bad vibe.

True, but I don’t see the arrow pointed up from here.

Two HOF OL are shells of their former selves…

Lamb and Parsons were on rookie deals, Dak is going from 40m to 60m.

The running game and the middle of the defense need a full makeover.

Impossible to overcome? No

Impossible to overcome when you don’t use free agency? I think that’s been proven.

Those three 12 win seasons were the peak and they still couldn’t win one damn divisional game, two at home.

They had their chance and blew it by trying to save cap space for years down the road.

Are we really dysfunctional or are we simply on a 30 year rebuild that started in 1996?
If we rebound to win it all by end of year 30, I'll give you a crisp 10 spot.

Need to stop putting a number on it. Absolutely no evidence it will end.

Most teams do not have permanent front office decision makers regardless of postseason success. Most GM’s get around 3 years to prove the team is headed in the correct direction. If they never achieve a deep playoff run in 5-7 years, they get canned along with the coaching staff and typically the older core of the team (if not sooner).

Dallas has seemingly perfected the regular season pretender “A” honor role. Beat bad tier 3 teams, go about 0.500 against other tier 2 teams, and lose to tier 1 teams. Rinse, lather, repeat.

I think Jerry is a genius. The way he lulled the rest of the league to sleep by the 30 years of failure. He’s got the nfl exactly where he wants them

What assistant coaches have we lost to lateral moves?
