Honestly, how are you going to say they're cheap. I mean didn't they just give a big deal to Asanate Samuel? Maybe they didn't want to give too much away and just go after Boldin or another WR when the seasons over.

I'm not sure how I feel about that. One one hand I think Philly has a chance to make some noise but that was before I starting hearing things about DeSean Jackson. If Philly could have had RWR by giving up a 1 and 3 and 6 and they didn't then I believe they made a mistake.

However, Reid is pretty funny about his picks so I guess they felt like they could stay in the hunt without RWR and then make noise next year. But there is no certainty than Boldin will be available. Who else can they go for next year at WR?

Like I said earlier-when Reid offered a talented, albeit injury prone/underachieving CB + 2 former 2nd round busts(Justice and WR Brown) for what is the biggest stud WR in this league(Fitzgerald), he REALLY had to be kidding himself.

Really-if you want to acquire players that will potentially put your team over the top, you better anticipate on paying up to do so. It's alot like trying to talk a realtor into paying $100K for a $1m mansion. It ain't gonna work.

I live in Philly and no matter who they signed every year the Eagles are 10 million plus under the cap. Eagles management never do anything over the top. Yes, they did get Owens but look how long it too.

From 00-03 the Eagles had one of the best defensives of the decade with players like Troy Vincent, Bobby Taylor and Al Harris in the secondary. Hugh Douglas, Jermaiah Trotter, Brian Dawkins and Corey Simon were all in their prime as well. They held the greatest show on turf to 11 points in one of the championship games. There achillies heel has been signing big name players on offense. There recievers have been Charles Johnson, Torrance Small, James Thrash and Todd Pinkston. The Eagles famous quote was "we won many football games with those guys at reciever." They had nice seasons but when it came to the crunch time these guys never made any plays. To be quite honest the Eagles could of very easily won 2 Superbowls in that time period but their ownership never took this team over the top. This is just another missed oppourunity for them not to get either Williams or Gonzlez. I always called the Eagles the Utah Jazz of the NFL, always good enough to tease their fans but never good enough to beat the leagues best.

I posted this in another thread.

The eagles are incapable of making fair deals. They won't make a deal unless they are getting a "deal". That applies to trades and contracts. They'll throw their hat in the ring on something like this because they know how much Roy could help them. But in a competitive situation, chances are none and less that they'd make the best offer.

When it comes to contracts, the eagles want to pay a few million less than the players worth and of course a few more million less than he's asking.

If a guy is "worth" 30 mil over 6 years and he's asking for 32 mil, the eagles have to have him for 28 mil. That's how they operate. They have to win. What they lose sight of is the ill-will it creates among their player base.

Jerry's theory is pay the player what he's worth, maybe a little more and buy/earn his loyalty. Get that player in the right mind frame when it comes to the franchise.
They did right by me and I have to do right by them. I love this team. Let me get back from injury a week early, play through pain, run through walls.

Remember right before the Giants game Owens did that interview with Sanders. Sanders asked him why he's was coming back from injury so soon and putting himself at risk.

Owens said that "Jerry took a risk on me and I'm not going to let him down." I can't tell you how invaluable that is.
