Eagles coordinator Johnson diagnosed with cancer
3 hours ago

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Johnson has had a recurrence of skin cancer, this time in his spine, team officials say.

Eagles trainer Rick Burkholder told The Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News on Thursday that Johnson was diagnosed with melanoma skin cancer on Monday at Pennsylvania Hospital. Burkholder said Johnson has begun radiation treatments at Bryn Mawr Hospital.

Burkholder said Johnson has a bone tumor in his back, in the same area where skin cancer was diagnosed in 2001.

He said Johnson, defensive coordinator under coach Andy Reid for 10 years, has cancer in some other areas of his body, but did not elaborate.

No surgery is scheduled for Johnson and he intends to continue coaching, Burkholder said.

Hope he recovers. The dude needs to just retire and spend as much time with his family as possible.

Get well soon!

I'm thinking a change of scenery will do him a lot of good. Some place out of the NFC east, perhaps?

Wow. Hope you get well coach.

Didn't I remember him having to coach from the booth against the Cards in the NFC Championship game because his back was hurting him?

Correct.

With defensive coordinator Jim Johnson using a cane to steady himself and his ailing back, the Eagles determined they would be better served with him calling the signals from a seat in the press box.

Well I am sure he is going to treat cancer like it is a QB and blitz the hell out of it with chemo.....beat it up, wear it down, and eventually make it submit to his constant pressure.

It's from all those blitzes he sends. I look for scientists to prove a link between blitzing and cancer in the near future.

and this isn't "just skin cancer" (which is no joke in of itself). it's metastasized and the survival rate is pretty grim. hope he gets better.

Hey, the joke was about T.O. not Johnson.

My dad has battled skin cancer the last few years so I know all about it.

I wish jim Johnson the best in his battle with cancer.

Thanks for the rebuke.

I Wouldn't want to sink to Eagle level.

Terrible news. I hate how good he is and he is an Eagle, but this goes way beyond football. My prayers are with you and I pray for a full recovery.
