I see people are still underestimating Leary. He'll get his respect when he's gone, like Kosier and Colombo.

I usually just roll my eyes every time someone brings up signing a guy.
But I would love Mathis on this team.

I like Leary....he is a great story but we overvalue him.

Mathis was a top 5 guard last year by all accounts. We wont bring him in but he is a huge upgrade over Leary.

Exactly this. Leary is a good player but he was this line's 'weak link' if they had one. Mathis would be an upgrade at LG for a season or two if it were to possibly happen, but this team has bigger needs elsewhere.

maybe he gets pissed a Kelly and takes lesser deal to come to Dallas so he can steam roll Chip Kelly's vaunted defensive players. Well one can dream.

vet minimum of course since its Dallas

Huge is a bit of a strong word I think.

Leary was damn good last year.

I get why people would want Mathis but I wouldn't be interested in paying him huge money to start over Leary.

There is something to the idea that our O-Line, as it currently is, has experience together and that makes a big difference as well.

yeah he is too old for huge money; probably only has a season or two left before a big decline starts. But he would be a SIGNIFICANT upgrade on Leary; Leary is over rated by too many here.

Now if we could get him without spending too much I would love it; then we would have 4 of our Line that would be considered top 5 or so in the NFL at their positions. Not even the Great Wall was that talented.

I don't think huge would be an exaggeration. Mathis is widely considered a top 3 player at his position. Leary is not even in the top 20. Mathis would be a huge upgrade, IMO.

Philly is trying to trade him, by all accounts. I wonder what they are asking for him? He is scheduled to make 6.5 this season and 7 next. That's actually not terrible.

If a team has a short window and you can upgrade your OL to protect your QB and improve the chances for your new RB, that's not such a horrible idea maybe.

BTW, his agent is Rosenhaus.....

It would sure be nice, but I don't see how we could possibly afford such a luxury.

We could find cap for Mathis, without doing to much IMO. Heck, if we cut Carr, his cap savings would cover the contract. Now, you would have to sign somebody else to play CB but you figure that that player would be cheaper. It's a two year deal. After that, you are out of it, unless you decide to extend. If you do that, then you might actually be able to lower the cap number, depending on the deal and how much you could sign him to and how many additional years.

If you signed Mathis and you cut Bernadeau, that would actually be a cap savings of 1.5 Mil this season, against Berns cap number for 2015.
