Eagles give TE Dallas Goedert huge contract extension

weird lol but i guess if you suck at drafting receivers you do what you can

I don't get the fascination.

It's not that he isn't good or even has pro-bowl potential, it's he was drafted in 2018 via them *trading up* when they had a prime Zack Ertz on the roster.

Was he so much better than any TE they would have had a chance to draft in 2019 or 2020 that this was a good pick? He put up good 2nd TE numbers in 2018 and 2019. In 2020 he got more of an opportunity when Ertz went down and still only put up okay to good numbers...but given the disfunction down the stretch, it's understandable.

This year he's good, but they passed on *a lot* of good players who would start for them. DJ Chark, Michael Gallup at WR, a better TE in Mark Andrews

Now they give him an extension at a higher price point than his play warrants...I don't know

You wonder how this impacts Dalton Schultz's future with the Cowboys. He may think he deserves something similar.

It probably cements Blake Jarwin getting cut in 2022 so Dallas can resign Schultz (5.25 savings if he is a post June 1st cut)

So, it is a 5-year $60M contract with $36M guaranteed.

$12M/year. I can see Schultz getting $12M/year from the Cowboys. If not, McKeon and Sprinkle and Jarwin can get the job done. Their will be other TEs available in FA and the draft.

For perspective:
WFT paid $8M/year for Logan Thomas.
Cowboys paying Jarwin $5.5M/year.
