Not trading up for one that has that many question marks.

Moving up in the top 10 is never ever cheap. They’ll have to pay a lot for it and if Carter even gets close to a bust it would be a very, very bad trade.
This move was more egregious but it was the Saints trading up to get Marcus Davenport.....very odd. Didn't get it then and still don't.

Oh it may be nothing there on Carter. Even if he's squeaky clean.....I don't understand trading up for him.
Can't disagree. Their need to jump to 4 (Seattle is at 5 correct?) doesn't make much sense unless they view Carter as a Suh or Donald.

Well that's another thing....how high do you even trade up because I don't think we know who is even going top 5 yet. I keep hearing rumors QB's will fall....I'd like to think he first two picks are QB's?

That doesn’t surprise me at all. I’ve been expecting it.

With all I’ve been hearing about Carter… there is some risk involved, particularly if they use picks to move up.

Whatever.
He is a total boom or bust prospect at this point, his character reminds me of Nick Fairley, who never did much on the NFL level. Great college player though.

Carter makes sense. With former Georgia teammates Nakobi Dean and Jordan Davis in the building I’m guessing they think they have the support system in place to settle Carter. They’re gonna have to leap frog Seattle who is rumored to be interested in him.

It won't come cheap, I think they should target Nolan Smith instead, but if they got Carter it's more swing for the fences.

It makes sense because Howie has been on an SEC kick.

He literally blew their first round picks for a decade. Just couldn’t hit. The last couple of years he has been almost exclusively getting his early picks from big SEC schools and, has done pretty well, aside from WAY overpaying for DT Davis.

D Smith
Dickerson
Davis
Dean

He will probably keep going back to that well until it doesn’t work:

Carter would fit into that. If not him, I’m expecting Nolan Smith.

Was Jordan Davis bad last year? Carter to the Eagles terrifies me regardless but would be kinda weird to use premium picks to trade up to grab a DT after just having used a top 15 pick on a DT last year
They lost Hargrave and Davis isn't anywhere close (nor ever will be) as a pass rusher. In fact, that's not what he ever was expected to be. He's a middle clogger. Davis is essentially the replacement for what Hargrave provided against the run while Carter would give the Eagles the replacement they need for Cox and the pass rush they lost from Hargrave.

So in a sense, the Eagles are treading water, but unlike us they are trying to replace a tidal wave with a tidal wave.

It won’t be cheap to get up that high. For sure.

They already lost Hargrave and Cox will quit soon. They are just trying to keep status quo. Nothing to worry about.

I truly HOPE they trade multiple picks to move up Thursday and here’s why…..I don’t want them dealing down and having a multiple picks next year again for when the crafty Rams start fire sale-ing players at the deadline to enter the Caleb sweepstakes.

A truly bright GM will have extra 2024 draft ammo in pocket after next weekend. Not them please.

Davis wasn't good. I mean he was a rookie.

They also have Milton Williams. I get why you take Carter. I don't get why you trade up for him though. Trading up- for a DT? Doesn't sound smart.
That's cause we don't do it here. We don't value DTs and Philly does. It's a risky move but Davis and Carter could give them a pretty stout interior with players like Milton and an aging Cox rotating in. Don't think it's necessarily better than Cox/Hargrave in its prime but those days are gone.

They value dts yet were terrible against the run. I mean they even went and got Joseph and Suh. You’re right though I don’t think I value defensive line enough to keep putting first rounders in it like that. But I get wanting Carter. See if he falls to me at 10. I only trade into the top 10 if I need a quarterback. It rarely ends up going well.

Their DT position contributed to them being one of the top pressure teams in the league and one of the top defenses in the league. Interior pressure is one of the best ways to disrupt a passing game. Their yards allowed per game was second only to San Fran.
