Just because they trade up higher into the top 10, doesn’t mean that it is a positive move. Maybe it will be or maybe it won’t be, but that’ll remain to be seen.
Moving from 10 to, say, 4 will be expensive and you’ll have to hit big for it to be worth it. Spending a lot on Carter and having him just be a solid player will not have been worth it. They could stay at 10 and get a guy like Nolan Smith. Often, a move like that will be much more positive for the team.
Only time will tell.
I can tell you that trading 3 extra picks for Jordan Davis last year is not looking good for Howie. If the guy just stays as a part-time run plugger who doesn’t get to the QB, that move is going to look pretty bad… no matter how fast he ran for a fat guy at the combine.
Just because the move makes a splash, it doesn’t make it a positive move.
