Eagles' Nick Sirianni says Cowboys star Micah Parsons will be accounted for on every play in Week 6

Wouldn't it be slick for Quinn to deploy Parsons to spy Hurts?[/QUOTE

If his groin is still bothering him I wouldn't expect much if any of this. Let him rush the passer and go pretty much in a straight line. Keep him out of stop and starts and sudden change of direction as much as possible.

You absolutely have Micah up like he’s going to rush the QB and then at the snap you drop him back in coverage and send someone else they aren’t expecting.

The Eagles can end up with multiple blockers assigned to a guy who isn’t even rushing, while too few blockers on the other side are overwhelmed. Keep them guessing on when he is coming and when he isn’t.

Sometimes send Parsons, sometimes send Barr, confuse the hell out of their protection package. Let Micah come through the A-gap from an off ball LB spot. There are a ton of things that Quinn can do to complicate protection for the Eagles.

So let Philly bring all they want for Micah… and watch other guys go off. It is all part of the Micah Parsons Problem. It isn’t just what he does… it is what the defense does when he’s out on the field.
Excellent post. If that happens there are simpletons that will only look at the stat sheet and will say Micah had a bad game.

No one cares that's he accounted for on every play. They wouldn't be doing their job if he wasn't. Dallas wants you to devote personnel to him. Devote a lot of personnel to him.

We have at least three truck drivers in my adult Sunday school class.
One tells me when he sees a deer in the road, he doesn't even stop. He said he hears too many stories of truckers who try to avoid deers only to get killed as a result.
He said he just plows through them because stopping a tractor trailer at full speed is dangerous.
Well, I drive a straight truck, not a semi anymore, but when an animal jumps out in front of me, I try to avoid it without putting myself or anyone else in danger. That usually ends up with a dead animal, like the coyote I hit a couple of months ago.

Whatever you do, again, you're trying to put your players in the best position to succeed, and while you're doing that, you're trying not to allow their best players to wreck the game," Sirianni said. "So, he'll be accounted for every single play. That's doesn't mean he's not going to make some plays here and there. He's a really outstanding, outstanding player. I think we all know that. The league knows that. He's proved it for the last year and a half. So, we need to do our jobs as coaches and put the guys in positions to not only be at their best, but also to defeat their best, right, and contain their best. He'll be thought about."

Better account for 97 dlaw and 56 who is 4th in hurrys this year but plays twice as less as the others in the top 25!

My natural reaction would be to dodge it. I guess you'd have to train yourself to plow right along, like my church member does. Shrug.

Parson's gonna wreck havoc

There are other guys who could do that. It would be a waste of Parsons, IMO. Besides, If they wanna pay that much attention to Micah, that opens it up for the rest.
I'd rather have donovan wilson spy him.
It would be wasting him, especially if he is still limited by the groin. He said in an interview he really can't run around but he can pass rush.
I think Wilson or Kearse would be choices for that role
I'd prefer they use Lewis and let Parsons rush and flush Hurts to his left side.
Parsons has proven to everyone he is the fastest and best athlete on the field when he plays, so a lot will depend on how he feels. Isn't spying the QB equal to getting after said QB? It's a Belichick move to take away their best player. Hurts is the engine on offense that makes that team go. I would not be surprised to see a "healthy" Parsons chasing down and hitting Hurts all day.

Spying the QB usually means hanging back about 5 yards from the LoS and shadowing him, just in case he takes off running.

With a talent like Parsons, unconventional tactics can be deployed. I would not recommend a spy on every down, but I would want to make Hurts feel like he is getting special attention more times than not. As others have alluded to, change up who the spy is and where he is lined up. Make Hurts feel the heat.

I'd be down with that, as long as he isn't spending the whole game spying.

No, not at all. You can't really rush the QB from the snap and also spy in him. You will get caught up with an OL. You need to sit back a little and follow him. It's more like covering a RB out of the backfield on a pass play. You don't sprint towards him at the snap, you wait and see where he goes. Now at some point I think you do come in on him but only once he commits or you have a clean hole to shoot through

Not necessarily because on plays where he stays in the pocket and passes, our best pass rusher would be stuck playing spy, vs causing disruption in the backfield right at the snap.

The spy would be ideal for Parsons if Hurts ran every down. Using someone like Lewis, who is fast to contain Hurts while Parsons is disrupting him in the backfield will give them an edge IMO

Eagles always focused on the wrong thing.
